Weekends gone quiet ?

I've been busy working at the moment. However I was thinking about this just the other day. My posts have been mainly on my original thread about Bon as I've been doing more with him and I try not to spam everywhere with him (it's hard, he's so pretty)
So we had a successful arena eventing clinic, one stop the whole session and a much more confident attitude from him so I had a super weekend

Owner has been away for three weeks so I have been having fun on Mr D, just hacking and schooling. I was thinking of posting something as his owner is back and I schooled with eyes on the ground for the first time for nearly a month and he was ACE. We have progressed because I've just focused on some of the basics like staying soft in trans, keeping a rhythm on a 10m circle, staying in front of the leg etc. All those boring but essential basics that really make a difference. I was so pleased with him, owner was very complimentary (and she's very picky on detail) so wanted to share how happy he makes me! I'd love to post a short vid but am now terrified that I will get picked to pieces. No-one seems to share vids these days, it's such a shame.

We have had a bit of a saddle nightmare over the past few months, so 6 weeks ago I made the decision not to ride for at least a couple of months to iron everything out. It has been two treadmill visits, plus a couple of in hand/lunge sessions per week. Also some chiropractics and bowen therapy. I am missing riding, but I feel like we are finally coming through the other side, so hopefully it will be worth it. Just waiting on my saddler to fix a time to pick up our saddle and take it away to completely reflock and then it will be a very slow start back to ridden work again.

I agree with you @oldie48 - I am reluctant to share videos too, even on my FB page.

I had wondered why they stopped, but then thought ‘winter is coming’ so maybe most people slow down now.
I haven’t done anything exciting at all, settling in new yard and progressing with our solo hacking (can only work on this at weekends, but progress is happening).
Oldie - loving your post (about how happy you are).
Roxylola your spotty boy is lovery.
Racebuddy sorry you’ve had to work so much
Nikicb - hoping the rehab goes well.

Tbh I don’t know why you are worried, @TheMule and I have taken the exact opposite approach and started vlogging our stuff as someone might find it interesting and we are thick skinned enough not to worry about other people. https://youtube.com/@theeventingjourney232

We haven’t been up to anything, other than a few lesson so I haven’t bothered starting one! We do have a comp this weekend so I’ll probably have a chat about that later in the week.
Hope everyone is keeping well! It’s getting hot here, so we are working on things for next year while not boiling too much.

Not that I’m much of a competitor anyway but winter is always a bit quiet for me especially Dec when Xmas socials get going. I’m not great with the dark, wet and short days, so I tend to keep them ticking over. Finn’s also recovering from melanoma surgery and all the associated trauma that he had at the vet (some of it due to him hating vets or any kind of treatment) but at least we’ve had no scares for a while.

I always say that I’ll try and focus on poles and jumps at home to build my confidence, but never seem to get round to it! But that’s my aim over this winter, so we come out into the spring feeling a bit more polished and confident. So I’ll aim for some indoor course hire, clear rounds, and pottering over little fences over the weekend - the yard only has one smallish school so it gets busy in between brining in and feed time so I need to pick my spot.

I have entered a little eventer challenge clear round thing during the Xmas break - xc on a surface then straight into a sj course (sj is timed) so that’s something to aim for.

I don't generally post too much about the competing we do, but we are in winter hibernation at present anyway. Normally do dressage over the winter but stepped back from doing dressage this year and been concentrating on showing. He is on a little proper holiday now and I have been doing DIY at home. Think be nice to keep the thread going - still nice seeing lovely hacking photos as well as training and competition reports. I don't put photos up or videos due to IT incompetence.

Not much has been happening over here. As I’ve said on various threads, I’ve been going through a bit of a difficult patch with Nova and she’s on non-ridden work for two weeks whilst we sort of piece the puzzle together as to what’s wrong. She will also be going in for a gastroscope, so that will come with its own set of issues afterwards in regards to treatment etc.

I’m not overly bothered - she’s only young, I’ve felt really rough recently and this time of year diminishes any sort of motivation I have anyway. The only thing I want is for her to be okay, but she’s trotting around lovely on the lunge and long-lines so that gives me some hope.

Fingers crossed for Nova and hope all comes well.

Lottie has had her post season hacking/long-reining break which is coming to and end and I have a very busy winter planned! Targeting some stay away BS shows. Also really working on her topline. She is always very fit but could be more muscled. So continuing with lots of long reining over poles and hilly hacking. Oh and picking up my 3.5T this weekend - perfect timing for the restart.

I rarely post on the weekend threads these days but I've been missing everyones updates. I'm on a training mission over the winter and have stepped down a level jumping while our fitness is down a level but I'm still out and about most weekends.

Just hacking and schooling here.

Really enjoying riding at the moment. My instructor made a couple of tweaks to my position over the summer that have completely transformed how I ride and the influence I have on my pony. Sadly lessons have to stop over winter as it's very exposed here and we get a bit battered by the weather.

I normally give mine a holiday in January as I tend to lose the will a bit!

I stopped posting because I never actually had any plans, my boy is still undergoing rehab for his DDFT injury - it’s been a tough old slog.
We switched to long reining rather than hand walking a few weeks ago and it’s been life changing lol, he seems to love it and it’s so much easier. Plus, the quality of his walk is 10000x better.
He’s not looking too bad for a horse who has been off ‘proper’ work & on 23 hours a day box rest for the past 6 months!

I'm just not all that interested anymore in the "Weekend Plans" stuff.

Plus I don't go to competitions and clinics anymore because I have a yearling and no longer have my ridden horse due to an import debacle. I ride another horse that doesn't belong to me, but I don't share pics and/or reports about someone else's horse without their explicit permission.

I was looking forward excitedly to having a horse on loan, but unfortunately due to a distressing emergency situation the horse in question had to be pts totally out of the blue which was heart breaking, more so for the owner obviously.

So I'm going to wait until Lari goes to the blood bank and then look for another horse to love and buy again. I'm still considering a friends offer to go halves with her on one but I don't think we will want the same type of horse so I don't know if that would work.

Lari has had his shoes off in preparation for the BB and he's doing amazingly, everyone is saying how well he is walking so I am really pleased and the ground conditions are just suited to transitioning to barefoot.

But see, not everyone has that thick skin, and it can be awfully hard to grow it, for some. I can understand the worry, regardless of the thickness of my own skin.

Looking great. I know how hard the slog is having done a lot of rehab in the past with my last horse and with the current one. I see you have a therapy band saddlecloth, I used that on mine, they are very good.

Thanks! I am pleased, he is a handsome chap even if he is causing my hair to go greyer by the day..
The hour of walking a day feels relentless and he was getting quite fed up too, but we’ve turned a bit of a corner (I hope). He’s actually at the vets today for a reassessment, so my nerves are a little frayed..
I am a fan of the saddlecloth, it came recommended by a chiro vet we have been working with. She’s very much focused on evidence based approaches and felt this would be helpful to him. We shall see!

Hope you get sorted with another horse soon, I am sorry about Lari. He’s a beautiful boy and I’m sure he will thrive at the BB.

I managed not to spew trying to put horses out on Saturday morning after a friends 30th birthday party on Friday night. That’s about my horsey excitement atm ?

wasn’t my fault though, it was Hulk’s fault.

a friends booked the riding school on Sunday and asked if I wanted to go. I’ve not ridden for weeks so might take my bare back pad and have a wee shot but mostly do some in hand stuff just for a change of scene and play.

also missing the weekend threads although having nothing interesting to add to it.

Not totally convinced by these but according to my physio one pic has her stronger and more muscled than the other? Anyone else see a difference?85B32FFC-B36F-46F7-BE6C-BE281631878B.jpg98594FDA-CE00-4CF7-8103-41B5D2C52269.jpg

Nothing to really report here!
Eventer ferel in field.
Preggers 3yo just getting a daily pony pat.
Other 3yo has come in again, had a teeny bib clip, been hacking around the block and just started some very basic school work.

3yo made me laugh the other day. 2nd time schooling, did 15 mins working on accurate 20m circles and controlling shoulders using poles to help. She thought this was great. Went to go back to yard and she was very indignant/nappy about being asked to leave the school to go home ?

I haven't posted for ages as I didn't think that I was contributing that much :)
Buzzy has had his winter haircut all ready for our winter activities but then my horsebox failed it's mot yet again so we're just doing boring stuff at home.
Just before I went on holiday we did an arena eventing clinic and he was an absolute superstar, he'd been pulling a few stops at recent clinics but he flew everything and felt much happier in himself so I was very pleased. He's kept it up as well.
Aiming to do some dressage this winter with a view to try a Novice test (not at all a fan of dressage so a big goal!) but just waiting for the Buzz-mobile to return.
I used to post videos/photos quite a bit but don't really have anyone to take them anymore, plus I started to feel rubbish about how I ride so didn't want to. So have a pic of us jumping in summer (over a too big jump for me normally :D)

We did fun club on Saturday but I wasn't feeling great as we had lost our beloved golden retriever the day before so my young friend did the trail in hand with Gigi.

BH is having a shoes-off holiday. A few weeks ago our fields got too mushy to turn out in, so he is only on arena turnout. That isn't really enough for a youngster, IMO, so I have started to hand walk and just do a bit of long reining in walk on the arena.

Then, on Saturday, I thought soddit, I miss riding him, saddled up and hopped on.

This is him, looking quite happy to be under saddle again!316337022_502564501905069_1389344710642388236_n.jpg

No plans as yet, the idea is to clip and bring back into work at Xmas. As he is the same, ridden or not, I may hop aboard now and again. I think we will do the occasional walk ride on the arena and he has one pair of boots that fit and another on the way, so we can re-start hacking. Or maybe not, if the weather is nasty!

Rigs is also on all weather turnout, so he has been ridden out. He seems cheerful enough.

I have nothing for "Competing and Training" though. I often turn away at this time of year. I get more enthusiastic once the days start to get longer again!
