My horse has had a clear fluid weeping from one eye intermittently for the last week. So far I've just bathed it with clean water each day thinking maybe she has a grass seed blocking the duct, but it hasn't improved.

I'm familiar with conjunctivitis which she's had in the past and produces a gunky/pus-like discharge, but this is not like that.

Should I continue with bathing or get some cream from the vet and treat as conjunctivitis just in case?

I'd get the vet to have a look, simply because you can't be too careful with eyes. It may be that a tiny foreign body is caught in the eye somewhere or his cornea has been scratched by something. Vets can check for scratches to the cornea as well as search for foreign bodies in the eye. They will also check for uveitis which would need immediate treatment.

My mare gets weepy eyes at this time of year as the flys are attracted to the warm moist eye area. Wearing a fly mask helps but i know this is not always possible. I bathe the eye and use goldeneye eye drops from the chemist. This usually works for us but if symptoms persits i would then call the vet
