Just wondering if anyone else has booked tickets for WEG next year, after reading H&H about the high cost of ticket prices.
I did phone Lexington (after 3 emails which were all ignored) to ask if like all previous games held in Europe there would be a 'Season' ticket that would get you the same seat for the duration of the discipline that you wanted to watch, was advised no this wouldn't be available.
So I grudgingly logged on to buy 3 tickets to watch the dressage ($180 a day just for the Grand Prix) which amounted to a staggering $750 per person to watch the 4 days of dressage, and lo and behold ticketmaster.com also managed to make a great cut out of it as well, had to pay a booking fee and a fee to be able to pick up my ticket as they won't post outside of the USA for every ticket booked, now given that you have to book 7 tickets in total (and I have to move seats between morning and afternoon performances 3 of the days) it then add's on another $210 for the 4 days. I was in Aachen and even allowing for the difference in exchange rates I would still have paid £221 (approx) for a 4 day season ticket rather than the £535.00 that I've just spent for Kentucky.
Very glad the games will be coming back to Europe in 2014 with reasonably priced tickets and the chance to buy tickets where you don't have to constantly move seats.

Anyone else got a moan on the reason that this is the first (and probably the last time) the games have been held outside Europe

I was toying with going to see the reining.... but ticket prices and other costs no way jose

Not going because of the prices. We spoke to the reps from Kentucky at Windsor and were totally put off by the hotel prices before we even looked at the ticket costs.

We had the same ticketing issue at Windsor for the Europeans - we had to move seats between afternoon and evening performances and you couldn't book multiple performance tickets in one transaction and so incurred additional booking fees. They used e-tickets so at least we didn't get stuffed with additional postage charges.

Not actually getting stuffed with postage charges but I am being charged $4 per ticket to go and collect them on the day of the competition.
Before the prices had came out and you realised what a rip off it was I had actually toyed with the idea of going over maybe every other year (in between equitana) to the Rolex event in Lexington, needless to say after this they won't be getting any more money from me.

Xc day is ok at $45 so about the same as what Badminton charges tbh. Dressage and show jumping though are ridiculous!

Much as I love WEG I'm all for enthusiasts refusing to book and letting the organisers know exactly why. The FEI should insist that a fair price level be agreed before awarding WEG and European Championship sto any bidding venues.

hmmm the marathon isn't too expensive either but... as much as me and mum have been dreaming of going looks like it won't happen.... if we're gona fly all the way out there we'd want to see the majority of what was on.... well appart from the vaulting. Looks like we'll be trotting off to normandy in 6 years then.... but its such a long time...

I save £30.00 a month in an savings account so that when the time comes to book, most of my costs are covered and I don't really notice the £30.00 a month missing, been doing this for the last 3 games, found at the last 2 the only thing that I had left to get was spending money, start saving now for Normandie, not as far to fly either and won't have to make 4 connections.
Think I need a life as I seem to spend my time counting down to the next holiday that I go and watch horses (9 weeks today the Olympia World Cup Dressage Qualifiers are on).

Have attended the WEG and Europeans for the last number of years and am very interested in going to Kentucky but the ticket prices are ridculous. Also spoke to the team that were at Windsor but the impression I got was that they weren't interested in European visitors at all - they just didn't care at all. To me, it seems like an American games for the locals to attend. Personally, I'm holding off until next March/April and I'll make a call on it then as I'm not expecting it to sell out. RE: accommodation - if we go, we'll be driving probably two hours a day (to and from) but that's OK in America.

Yes its funny how the Americans can have a inward looking perspective on sport and love to have a "world series" for sports that are relatively unknown outside the US,.... however I think the ticket prices will shock the natives too, so yes maybe there will be some offers....
