For me, this doesn't come as a surprise!! I had every intention to going to WEG in Kentucky, until I sat and worked out how much it was going to cost! I would have easily spent £2,000 for a basic hotel/motel, flights, tickets, etc just to go for the 4 days of eventing. For that sort of money, you could have a top hotel in a top resort for at least a week, if not 2. The prices are outrageous!

People who own horses don't have this sort of cash spare, so I guess, like me, they will be watching it on the TV.

I think this is a real shame for the sport and all those competitors who have worked so hard to be picked for the teams.

Very annoying if you have booked and paid for your tickets at the full price ages ago. I thought the eventing tickets were sold out?

Some of the tickets aren't even for a full day! So if you want to watch a day of the GP dressage, for example, you have to buy separate tickets for morning and afternoon sessions. I'm really not surprised that they've had to lower the prices to try and get more ticket sales, but feel bad for those who payed full price.

Another case of greedy organisers I think. Quite absurd that they priced the tickets way too high given the state of the American economy, never mind the problems in many European countries. I had a great time at the WEGs of 1990, 94, 98 and 2002. Only health problems prevented me from considering going to Aachen in 1996, but there was no way I would have entertained the trip to Kentucky. I just hope they realise the low take-up of tickets is due to the pricing policy NOT lack of interest in equestrian sport.

All this with this years WEG does just make me think there's a reason it's not been held outside of Europe before! The majority of the equestrian nations are based here, putting it on another continent, one that has large bodies of water both sides is just going to make everything so expensive. Sorry America, you get everything else but this one should stay is Europe. I mean GBR isn't even fielding a full team! Drivers are definitely not going, I think the vaulters are struggling.....

Oh well, 2014 is Normandy and we have the olyimpics before then.... or CHIO Aachen is fabulous for all the disciplines.
