BE can confirm that the British Eventing team is Tina Cook (Miners Frolic), William Fox-Pitt (Cool Mountain), Piggy French (Jakata), Pippa Funnell (Redesigned), Mary King (Imperial Cavalier) and Nicola Wilson (Opposition Buzzz).

The non-travelling reserves are Daisy Berkeley (Spring Along), Sharon Hunt (Tankers Town), Oliver Townend (Ashdale Cruise Master) and Lucy Wiegersma (Woodfalls Inigo Jones).

Was the failing of Jakata at the first barbury trot-up something minor then? Thought redesigned looked at very classy horse at barbury so glad he has a team debut!

Wasn't Jakata spun at Barbury? Strange... pretty solid team although would have thought Tankers Town and Sharon instead of Piggy perhaps.

I'm surprised to see Jakata down there - I thought he was spun at Barbury? Redesigned is a super horse - will be interesting to see how he copes with something like WEG.

As ElleJS said..."interesting".
Shame that Sharon didn't make the cut.
Pleased for Nicola.
Piggy's horse was spun, so that does seem a rather strange choice???

Well!!! I've just looked up Jakata's form: that's, erm, a "bold" decision to say the least  Piggy has done 2 3*s on him, admittedly with good results - he was indeed spun at Barbury. Prior to that he has a long and not particularly distinguished career with his previous two jockeys - and retired XC at every previous attempt at 4* :o

They must be pretty convinced Piggy can do magic on him... Must say if I were one of those reserves with really excellent current 4* form I'd be feeling pretty sore. Surely there's time enough for Jakata to prove himself at Burghley then be considered for next year if he's so great??

Jakata was spun but did hear it was something minor such as an abcess that hadn't quite cleared. Ignoring that not sure it had the form for the team and much as I am delighted to see Pippa back it is still relatively inexperienced for what is going to be a tough track.

I am not an Oli fan but he is a winner through and through so shame he is not in, totally gutted for Lucy that horse is very consistent at top level including well placed at Kentucky the only minor blip with many others was Badminton this year. Also feel that Spring Along is a form horse I know he is not a spring chicken but if they think he is too old why name him as reserve?

Also has to be doubt on Miners Frolic that was a nasty fall at Badminton and he has only done an OI at Salperton since, wonder if he will run at Gatcombe?

Completely shocking selection.
As much as we love Piggy, Jakata has never completed a 4* from several attempts and a good performance at Bramham should not count above solid 4* form this spring from all of the reserves. Particularly think Lucy is unlucky not to be selected. Must be very demoralising to have such good 4* form on a lovely young horse and then not be chosen in favour of a combination with only limited 3* form.
Seems favouritism is at play here rather than unbiased selecting.
Also Tina's selection could be seen as controversial given the awful fall at badminton and only 2 intermediate runs since.
As so often we see very strange (and possibly biased) selection

Think Piggy deserves her place - they can't really drop her after that amazing championship performance in Fontainebleu. Suspect Some Day Soon is not sound - he hasn't run since May when he was withdrawn at Chatsworth. Jakata has consistent 3* form this season with Piggy, much like Some Day Soon had last year when many also questioned his team selection and look what happened.... There's a long way to go yet and am sure there will be some more twists and turns before the final team fly out.

According to BE
The six selected horses must confirm their form at a competition to be agreed by Yogi Breisner and the selectors. Who will run as individuals will be decided nearer the time

so what is the point in riders trying to get impressive 4* form if they are overlooked by 3* form? Yes Piggy pulled off an amazing result in the Europeans and will probably go well this time, BUT selection should be made on top level consistant form not a few results.

Interesting point but the Euros are 3* and WEG is 4* so we're talking a different kettle of fish here...

Glad to see PF back within the chosen 6! In terms of team experience over the years William, Mary, Tina and Pippa would be a tough act to beat but we shall see eh? October's not that far off.

ps. agree with the comment about why name tankers town and spring along as reserves if they are deemed to old to include in the squad!

Still plenty of time for some of the team to go lame and the reserves replace them - it is a long time until September...

Im really pleased for Pippa, but have to agree Minors Frolic, didnt really impress at Badders, I love both spring along and TT and gutted they are not going but I suppose we need to think about the future.
