Weigh Tape vs Formula.....

The results are rather different - which isnt helpful to worming weights!!!

H1 - WT = 525 Formula = 556

H2 - WT = 700 Formula = 795


which do I go with?!

This is the formula - The calculation: (heartgirth x heartgirth) x body length ÷ by 330. This gives the weight of the horse in pounds (lbs).

I don't think weight tapes are at all reliable. Mine was around 560kg on the weight tape, when he was weighed on a weighbridge at the horspital he was 620 - 10% more. I tend to over dose with wormers, normally the toxicity level is something like 10x the normal dose.

The forumla I know is girth x girth x length all divided by 11877 which give kgs.
I have found the weigh tape more accurate. I get a difference of about 60kg between weigh tape and forumla and when she was in the vet hospital I got them to weigh her and the tape was spot on for my mare.

I think it depends a lot on the build of the horse and their length because the weigh tape doesn't take the length into account at all, just the girth. If it helps my mare is a medium weight cob, 6'6'' rugs

I have an excel sheet where you put heartgirth, body length and height in (height being the other variable) and it has come to within 5kg of a weigh bridge every time.

I have two weight tapes and one is consistently over and the other under by at least 30kg
