reading a couple of posts yesterday i noticed that feeds were being described by volume, ie. 3/4 scoop of this and 1 scoop of the other, seems very vague.
was wondering how many people know how much feed/hay they are giving by weight...

(cant figure out how to do a poll

Well I can't speak for the others but what I do with a new feed is measure a level scoop and then weigh it. Then I know for future ref and as long as I feed a level scoop I am always feeding the same amount.
ETS I find it easier to visualise 2 scoops then 4 lbs for example

I used to weigh Amy's because she was generally a fatty.

I never weighed Fred's , just got as much grub in to him as possible. And Thumper looks to be neither a good nor bad doer, so all by eye at the moment.

Similar to horsegirl, I might weigh feeds to formulate an initial ration, but having done that I then feed by the scoop rather than weighing it out everyday.

However, if I was seeking nutritional advice then I would always describe the horse's ration in weight terms, as scoop sizes differ.

thats what i do, i weigh a new feed (the difference between brands of mix that look the same is quite surprising).
thats what i thought, about scoop sizes, its not much help when people are asking for advice...

Ive never weighed a feed before and probably never will. I just go by the rule 'if its fat feed it less, if its skinny feed it more'
