We are fostering a mini dachshund, which we think has been in some sort of breeding kennels. I had him vet checked, and he weighed 7.49kg, and seems to have no health issues. He eats his food up, he is now on three meals a day, about 250-300kg but he is losing weight. I think this is because he has gone from very little exercise, to racing around with another dog three times a day, which I do not want to stop, as it is part of his becoming a normal dog routine.
The food we give him is dry 60% meat content, my other larger dogs eat it, but perhaps he needs more calories, but not too high a fat content. ATM if he poops indoors it's not a smelly mess, So any suggestions?

Something with a high oil content. When we wanted to put condition in the brown pup, we chose Ardern Grange Giant puppy food which has a higher oil content than the one we were giving her. That worked well and she is now on adult food, having caught up and proved to be large but not giant.

That's a big minature, ideal weight is about 5kg.
Does the vet want more or less weight?
Keeping dachshunds really light is so much better as it takes so much pressure of the spine, obviously not skinny poor weight but the low end of good.
If he does need more weight I qoukd just increase food by 30g per feed, you may find his weight loss plateaus as he gets to a perfect weight and is used to the excersise.
