Only owned him for 6 months and he looked great in summer but is now lean and lost muscle mass, I rug heavy, feed a lot and has ad lib hay and lives out 24/7. Is worked 5 times a week and due to event in a couple weeks.

He was being fed Alfa a and shape up by Saracens but this wasn’t enough and he was losing condition so swapped to Spillers fibre and multi balancer but has now gone off his feed and won’t even touch them!

I’ve had the vet out couldn’t say what it was suspected possible ulcers and is on a supplement to see if change if not will scope

Now I can only get him to eat his Alfa so looking for alternate other feeds to bulk him up and put on condition without the sugar and fizz as he is a forward ride advice please I’m considering:

- readigrass to add extra until summer grass
-oil for calories linseed or vegetable
-sugar beet molasses free Alfa beet
- top spec ulsa kind cubes

Not sure what else to consider worried il buy a whole bag of something and he won’t even touch it ? any advice please TIA

My go to ulcer diet:
Keyflow Pink Mash
Baileys Ease & Excel (if needing "more" from a bucket feed)
Micronised linseed (as a supp or feed)
Salt
Vit/min supp (progressive earth pro balance)
Dengie meadow grass chaff

I rate Allen and Page Soothe and Gain. It’s transformed my mare who’s always been hard to keep weight on. The others would all like it but alas are all fat, so have to make do with licking her bowl out when she’s finished.

My ulcer prone mare gets the following:

Spillers Gro & Win Balancer
Micronised Linseed
Thunderbrook Healthy Herbal Chaff
Baileys Ease & Excel (only if she needs a little ompf)
Safe Salt
Her Ulcer & Joint Supplements

With a slop of Speedibeet to encourage eating.

She had dropped terrible condition last winter, completely lost her top line & muscle. Was recommended this diet by an Independent Nutritionist and along with the correct work is looking fab and *touches wood* keeping tummy healthy.

Aloe Vera juice ( thank you, ycbm!) ,Pink mash, Sainfoin Pellets and Linseed are worth a try, and very palatable, (though one of mine gets bored of Pink Mash after a while, so alternate with fast fibre, and another gets too fat if on Sainfoin consistently, but they do love it)

Just get him scoped, treated if needed, then sort out the feeds. I can't believe the difference in my horse since treating for ulcers and then staying on top of it. Supplements that didn't make a difference before now do help. He's fed as lib haylage, a basic chaff and Saracens competition balancer and looks great for a previously super skinny tbxId

My first choice would be Winergy Growth and if that weren’t working I’d try Ease & Excel followed by Releve. There is also the newer Allan and Page feed that I have no experience of.
