Weight gain tips?

We are a 2 whippet household-usually both are a good weight, one tends towards skinnier and one tends towards fatter but both healthy weights.

However my 3yro bitch is definitely skinnier than I would like now- she had jabs last week and was down 1 kg from last year.

We ad-lib with their biscuits and they have access throughout the day; because of this, I don't really want to change base food.

Is there anything I can pop on her biscuits that is high calorie and very tasty (to make her eat up immediately, so it isn't left for other dog)?
Wasn't sure about fish oil or something?

TIA

We used tripe for Ivy (Greyhound) when she needed to gain weight. It was slow but definite progress. Being able to pop into our vets round the corner to weigh her once a week helped us monitor though.

Also tinned sardines :)

Tinned sardines- I use the ones in olive oil but really drain off the oil. Probably best to start with half a fish (they usually have about 4-5 in each tin) just in case of whippet tum upset.

Thanks all, will look into some tripe and/ or sardines.
Thankfully she doesn't suffer from sensitive tummy at all and already eats lots of sprats 🐟 as treats so I know she likes stinky fish flavour.

Dobby looked awful for a long time (suspected IBS combined with being fussy and whippet x saluki) but I've found tripe has done wonders for him and he's now at a much better weight. I'd go so far as to say he could probably lose 0.5kg but I'd rather have that problem at the moment!

Sorry to hijack this thread but I have asimilar problem - my just turned one year old whippet is very skinny. The vet says its fine, he's a teenage boy, but I get comments from people walking him.

He eats bits of everything, he isn't fussy per se but never eats a lot of any kind of dog food (always eats up human food though!) . His poos are fine.

Someone has suggested I try him on a food for working dogs - is that a good or bad idea?

Cut out human food.

Feed a good quality dog food. Kibble, semi moist, raw, cooked, whatever.

Offer him food 3 times a day to get some weight on him.

Just bits off are plate, a crust of toast and things like that now and then if he is waiting nicely.

I do feed a good quality dog food (I think) - Wolf of Wilderness Semi Moist.

He has food constantly available - maybe that is a problem?

I know some people feed dogs from their plate but I don't. If I save her some meat then it is given away from the table after the meal and she has to do something for it - for example spin, touch, watch.

I would use the calories wasted on toast on something better for him nutritionally

and I would stop the free feeding.

If you don't think he is enjoying his dog food try something else.

I was using Platinum for training treats, it smells delicious.

My two are super fit and the youngster runs to the leaner side. They have ad lib grain free biscuits, and one meala day of biscuits mixed into wet food. They also get sardines, ribs, chicken wings, any suitable raw meat I see going cheap, high fat treats etc, etc. Its hard work keeping weight on him, yet my other one can run fat if I'm not careful. Hes 15months and not done growing yet,I can always tell when hes due a growth spurt as he drops a load of weight and looks terrible, then shoots up and gains it back.

You cant really see how muscular he is here. Hes solid. I'm pleased with how hes looking though.
