My tb looks ok but he just needs a litte extra weight i think. Will wait a few weeks before adding any other food as grass will hopefdyart growing now after this rain!!
Currently only fed soaked grass nuts with a vit and min supplement, ad lib hay, grass. In full work. Have tried linseed. He won't eat any chaff this time of year. Don't want anything with alfalfa in it. He won't eat copra. Don't want to add too much bulk to his bucket just calories. Will up his grass nuts a bit in the meantime.

I agree with linseed. My horse has this but have to watch how much to give her, she used to have Veteran Vitality but I noticed that was very weight gaining - that contains linseed.

I'm lucky to have a brilliant feed merchant near me who puts some of the more popular horse feeds in small bags and charges accordingly. So I can get a bag of speedibeet that fills about 12 mugs (two feeds per mug) for 68p a bag. It's great as I'd never get through a large sack of speedibeet. They do the same with Super Barley Rings and Linseed Lonzenges both of which are fattening feeds. I try to limit her to a few of each in each feed as they are very fattening but they add a bit of variety to her diet but also because her coat comes out really shiny with the linseed.

I feed my oldie a good large mug of micronised linseed a day, however at the end of last year with the poor grass he looked a little poor so I added Equijewel which is stabilised rice bran and that really helped him gain condition. My Fattie has a mug of pink mash which is very palatable to mix supplements in, my oldie has Saracen Releve well soaked as well as conditioning cubes. Neither are chaff lovers. You might find feeding a pre and pro biotic helps him digest what he has better. Both the above feeds contain Protexin or you can buy it separately.

Thank you all. I tried linseed and it was ok but didn't see huge results. Have emailed regarding equijewel to see if it would suit him.

I am suitably impressed with Spillers conditioning fibre, I fed this over the winter to my poor looking TB, and now I have had to drop to Happy hoof as he is lardy. He does get 4 feeds a day.
He does get high quality haylage/hay, plus a gut supplement too.
****apologies just seen you didnt want chaffs******
