my friends TB looses a bit of wieght in winter, even though she is rugged up to the eye balls, on morning feed and evening feed, and quality hay and is stabled at night. she is fed wheat feed, pasture mix, fibre cubes, and moli chaff. she also has oils and koff mixture in it. Her horse is a competion horse and competes though out the winter. And as been a typical TB we dont what to feed her any thing that may fizz her up. Does any one have any ideas on was to keep the weight on, were just conserned because last winter was warm and going by this summer winter may be a bad one. :S

Prehaps try her on alfalfa oil instead of chaff as it is richer and contains oil (or just get alfalfa then add oil to it). Why do they feed her wheat feed? I have always been taught that horses can't digest wheat so it is pointless feeding it to them. They could also increase her meals to three times a day and change some of her hay to haylage.

we use to use alfa-a, baileys no.4 and soya oil for our horse - he was very skinny, bad condition when we got him. Now swapped no.4 for D&H pasture mix, just cos' he has been on that for a year and has put on loads of condition so doesn't need it anymore!

Doesn't make him fizzy either.

I use tope spec condition cubes and comprehensive balancer with alfa a and sugarbeet, works a treat for mine and is a no-grain formula so doesn't fizz them up but they're still full of sparkle. If you ring top spec they will tailor a plan for you and send you lots of free info in the post. After mine attain their ideal weight they will just be fed the alfa a and sugarbeet with balancer.

hi there i own a thorobred and have had the same issue for some time but have finally found a diet that helps and he looks great.
i have him on happy hoof.pasture mix.topline cubes.equine gold suppliment and a huge haynet and graze all day and in on an evening.
topline doesn t make him mad it promotes weight gain and gives them great help for muscle tone.
