Weight limits?

Just wondering how much weight a 13-13.2hh heavyweight gypsy cob would be able to carry? And if theyre 13hhish at 3 years old what height would they be expected to mature too?

Same question but about a 12.2hh heavyweight gypsy cob. Any ideas?

Completely depends on build and conformation, but if a 'proper' cob, should be limitless [to an extent].

One's I've known that height [again, 'proper'] would easily carry up to 15stone or so no doubt.


ETA - Sorry, I'm on about fully mature of course. At 3, no matter what breed, I wouldn't like to go any more than around the 10/11stone mark maximum personally.

Height depends on breeding. Ours which we're familiar with breeding, generally have another 3 inches or so to go in growth height from rising 3 year olds to mature 5/6 year olds.

Good confirmation, very short back and stocky. Typical 'proper' cob build. Any ideas on what height a person would start to look silly on a pony that height?

This was one of the stallions from last year if a comparison is easier.

He was a 4 year old. Just a touch over 13hh. I'm about 5ft9 and around 12 stone probably. He never even acknowledged me on him if I'm honest!

Trying to find a pic of the 12hh chap, but can't find it atm! But wasn't much difference in it if I'm honest.

Only difficuly thing can be finding the right saddle to fit you both. Often bareback is easier!!! I'd always go with a nice compact show saddle.

I've ridden a cob when I was 16 stone, he didn't bat an eyelid, but then I am a balanced rider.

I've always been told the rule of thumb for cobs is a stone per hand? So 12hh = 12st, 13hh = 13st, etc. Ditto that at 3yrs old it would be less though.

My cob is 14.3ish, he's had a 15st, 6ft man on him without batting an eyelid. I'd be reluctant to put that much on him regularly, however.

my gypsy cob was 13.2 when i got her now after 8months and good feed shes shot up to 14hh and 14.2 on her bum! so hoping to level out at 14.2! theres are discrepancies on how old she is, teeth say 3/4 passport says 5/6!

she is heavy weight, but a big horse with short legs! im 5'4 and about 9.5 stone! here are some piccys if it helps

p.s ignore the mud legs, you wouldnt believe the bog we have to go through to get to the school!!
