So, I ride a Welsh section C for her owner and when I first started riding her she was obese (the vet even said!) And she's losing weight but she needs to loss more weight as she is prone to laminitis.

Any ideas how to get the weight off her quick?

Exercise is the main thing followed by reducing her feed...is she on hard feed/chop? How much? HDo you weigh her hay? Soak it? Come spring and the new grass coming through, it may help to muzzle her, introducing gradually to her. Weigh tape her weekly to see how much she is losing, it is better to lose gradually ....there is plenty of info on percentages of hay (weighing it) to the weight of your horse/pony on Internet, I can't remember off the top of my head...maybe just a good balancer/supplement if she is working hard (top spec lami is v good)....hill work in walk/trot, schooling and general hacking, vary it to keep her interest as well as your own. Don't forget if she loses weight, her saddle will probably need adjusting or replacing.

She has no hard feed at all, I don't weigh her hay but she gets one haynet a night and it's not soaked. She will have a grazing muzzle when we find one that she can't get off in the field! Also she can't have restricted grazing as she goes through fencing (can you tell she's a Welshie lol)
Do you think free schooling is good for weight loss? I've been free schooling her instead of riding her in the school x

I would not bother with free schooling in my view its a waste of time just having them run round aimlessly, lunge her properly with some loose side reins and get her to work properly doing lots of controlled transitions it will burn far more calories while building the correct muscle and teaching her to work correctly, then maybe start some schooling and have some lessons to get you on the right track
