Prince the pug will be coming to us at the end of January, and he currently weighs a whopping 25lbs. He was a hefty 32lbs, so his weight *is* coming down, though it seems he's hit a bit of a plateau. A quick check of the pug standard suggests male pugs should weigh a maximum of 20lbs.
I have zero experience of overweight dogs. How much do I feed him--an amount suited to his ideal weight, or a bit less than what he currently gets, and then gradually decrease the food as he loses weight? And what about exercise? He is grossly unfit, and is only used to a couple of 15-minute walks a day. Do I add in an extra five minutes per day and build up from there?
I'd like him to be able to chase and sort of keep up with speedy Stella
