I've had my Fell Pony for nearly a year, and she lost some weight over winter, although does seem to be able to get fat off fresh air. She gets no extra feed apart from having some hay over winter, lives out all the time, and I think I'm going to struggle keeping the weight off this summer. Any recommendations? Are grazing muzzles a good idea?

I have managed all my good doers by strip grazing each year. I tend to put my smaller ones in the stables during the day with a soaked hay net and out at night. I make sure that the ponies area is grazed in the day with either sheep or another horse to keep it down constantly. Muzzles are good if they stay on :) I do not like to use them when its too hot though.

I have all my 7 on about 2 acres at the moment as the grass is very good. I find its better to try and be one step ahead and try to prevent, not always easy :)
