Ok, I know it is like asking "how long is a piece of string", but tbh I was amazed at people when they say their cob weighs 600 or 700kg!

This is my 14.3 cob Pinto

He is on a diet as he recently taped at 535kg (condition score of 3.5 -4 :o ) after being 485-495kg all last summer.

Fortunately he is now back down to 510kg,

I think British cobs have lead for bones ;) :P

I weight taped my lad today, he is also 14.3hh, he was 430kg so I'm very happy.
He's right at 450kg, but with the spring grass coming through I'm glad he's gone a little under although he doesn't look under weight.
At his heaviest he was 560kg, and he was a barrel and very visibly overweight.
I don't know how cobs of similar size can be 6-700kg either :(

I have 3 that are currently dieting, they are between 14.1- 14.3 and weights are 505, 518 and 546 according to measure. Really worries me at this time of year if they're overweight.

A strong cob weigh taping at 450ish probably weighs around the 500 mark on a scales. Not uncommon for a 15hh cob to weigh upto 600ish kilos. Most thoroughbreds weigh 500-550 out if training while a warm blood type of 16-16.2hh could be expected to weig about 100kg heavier. I once weighed a haflinger 14.3hh on a scales. He was just indeed 700kg ironically about 20kg heavier than the ID x 17hh weighed at the same yime

Had my veteran 15.3 cob weighed on vets scales a couple of years ago. Interestingly it showed that my D&H weigh tape was spot on but he weighed 580kg and vets said he needed to be down to no heavier than 530kg. Got him down to 500kg by the end of winter but it's hard work. Remember that's for a 15.3 cob! So 14.something hh cobs should be in the 450kg range!

My Welsh cob is often a good 50kg heavier than most welsh cobs of his size. When he's 510kg on the tape he was condition scored as perfect by spillers and weighed 556kg on their bridge. He's only 15.1hh, just very deep through the middle!

True BOF. But they rarely do. And you get that old gem of "you don't understand cobs, hes not far, that's how they are built"! ;) however the most important thing is BCS rather than weight. The Haffie was grossly obese though!!

I thInk too many horses including cobs are overweight! Our 14.2 Irish cob is currently 430kg and looks perfect! However last spring she was 500kg which was far too much!

16.3hh shire x cob and he weighs 812kg on weigh bridge he sees a nutritionist regularly and he's now perfect at that weight.

Can't ever risk him getting laminitis as the vets have already said they'd recommend PTS straight away so he's on a bare paddock with fast fibre and hay twice daily and he's exercised regularly xx

My 14.3 Irish cob was his heaviest at 480kg. Looks lean and slightly ribby at 425 I like him at 435. He is currently 445 which I'm not happy with going into summer. So exercising 6 days a week. And unrugged for the past few weeks. Gotta say lots of people say he looks great but he still has an apple bottom and fat coverage on his ribs and withers.

I have a 14hh cob. She is a bit more lightly built but have finally got her back down to a healthy weight and IMO i think she needs to loose a little bit more but shes currently at 426kg on weigh tape. She hasnt been that weight since 2010 few months after i got her!
At her heaviest she was around 460kg on weigh tape. Love to get her on a bridge though.

My boy was 650kg on scales last summer - 590kg on tape.

I've slimmed him down to 600kg as recommended and he looks fit. He is 15.1hh at a push but has 10.5" of bone and is wide all over.

I don't understand why you think they can't be that weight? They are!

He should have an apple bottom that's part of their breed :)

This is my boy from about a month ago, since then he has developed a fair bit of shoulder muscle but he was weighing in at 604kg on the weight tape.

I think he looks pretty good for this time of year, although is now on a restricted paddock until the main one has been munched on for a while :D
P.S. He is 16.1hh and 5years old

Agree with glenruby, condition scoring is more important. I have a 14.2 connie x tb who weighed 503 on scales in her prime, all muscle. Friends sec d is 550 at 14.3, again all muscle. Too much variation in build & whether its fat or muscle to define a correct weight. A lw 14h cob out of work could be a pile of lard at 400, likewise one with 10" of bone & solid muscle could be 600 at 15.2 without being overweight

Our 15hh cob is in the early 500s and Is currently in spot on condition! So yes they can and do weigh that much.

Different story if they are obese though!!

My 13.2hh cob was weigh bridged in Oct last year and was 545kg, and conditioned scored at 3.5/4. He was fit and in hard work. We also weigh taped him and it read 518kg.

As I understand it weigh tapes are not always accurate, and even less so for cobs who carry weight differently to other horses.

OP I would say your cob is at least 580/590. My 15.1hh cob was rarely under 520kg even when she was 3 day event fit!

My 14.3hh Traditional weigh tapes at 470kg when condition scoring 3....which he did about a month ago coming out of winter. He looked perfect.

At his heaviest he taped 540kg and scored a 4.5 on the condition score scale.

My cob (in sig) is 13.3/ boarding on 14, he varies! Weightaping him he is now 380...his ideal seems to be 370 on the tape, he seems much smaller than the other cobs on here! He also only takes a 38" girth...!

Mine weighted 530kl at Trailblazers this year, which imo is ok for a 14.2 gypsy cob. He'd hunted in the winter and dressage-ed all summer so was well muscled. He was capable of a full days hunting one week and a couple of dressage tests the next.
