It is so hard being a long-distance owner, and I can’t wait to be able to travel to see my girl.

Anyway, we’re about 6 weeks post EMS diagnosis, and at around the halfway point before we have another vet check up. With a more intensive exercise regime in place (at least 30 mins per day trot and canter; plus 2-3 longer hacks per week) and some jiggerypokery with feed (double and triple netted, free swinging, soaked hay nets) plus 250ml of low s/s chaff for supplements, and we are now starting to see a difference in her body shape, and her belly is starting to decrease

top photo is from Oct last year, and the last “naked” pic I have before rugs were permanently on - bottom photo is middle of April. Most recent photo is the snacking ? photo, which was taken last week

ETA: she is 24/7 on a multi-surface track with no grass

T looks loads better! I couldn't believe she could gain weight on the management she was on, so it just goes to show what good doers some of these natives really are.

I've said to your yard / track owner before that I think she has a fantastic set-up and really does go the extra mile for the horses in her care.

I know it is a tough thing, mine has to be on a mega diet because of EMS too. He was on 8kg of hay a day max, it was all soaked for 12 hours too.

It concentrated my mind when he was turned on a surface, as any food was given by me, no excuses. I have found ways to make it more palatable to him though, 4 net times a day, straw as an addition too.

Mine lost weight and now has 7 ribs visible, vets orders. The up said is, he now does not test positive for EMS. As long as he is slim, he can cope with grazing, he is up to 1 3/4 hours a day, muzzled. It makes for some variety.

I know, right? For the majority of horses, just being on a track is enough to keep their weight in check... not my little air ferm ?
