I think that's a lovely and selfless, genius offer to be making !
I'm crying just reading this at the thought of anything happening to my two, they're both young and I'm planning on having them both for another 20 years, God willing, so goodness knows what I'll be like then, I'll be a mess. As much as I'd like to be strong and I'd always hope to be there at the end, when it comes to death i'm about the softed idiot there is!

I think I'll be wailing loud enough for the surrounding counties to hear!!! So you might want to give my vet your phone number now to save their eardrums!!

I stayed with my old girl from the moment the vet came to the moment the crem man put down the trailer ramp beside her. Seeing her fall held absolutely no fears for me (she was PTS by injection) because she had epilepsy and and seeing her go up and over backwards every 10 days for months before she was able to have treatment, meant that a gentle collapse was nothing in comparison. Perhaps I'm lucky, but I'm able to detach myself mentally from my emotions quite well and I treated it all (as best I could) as an ordinary visit from the vet. That's not to say I wasn't upset, of course I was, but weeping uncontrollably wasn't going to help me, the vet or the horse at that time. I was pleased too that the vet was someone I knew slightly but he had never treated my horse. The girls who usually came out to us were rather fond of the silly old thing and were a bit shocked when I said I was going to call it a day (although when one saw her, routinely, a few weeks later she agreed that I was doing the right thing). Its the butt end of the job and destroying an animal you know must be infinitely harder than walking up to a strange animal.

I think that's lovely Billie1007. Brought a little tear to my eye so it did. Especially good for those who keep horses at home & don't have support from other liveries.
