Hi Is anyone elses horse got a really weird coat at the mo? My mare has a greasy feeling scurfy coat and patches on her face where she is scratching. She has never suffered with sweet itch before so i don't think it's that normally she has a gorgeous shiny healthy coat by now she has been wormed and only eats hay and grass. I wondered if she's lacking oils and her skin underneath is quite dry also she is still holding onto a bit of winter coat! Any help would be great! I can't feed any hard feed as she is too fat even on hay and a bit of grass! She has Alpha Oil in the winter so I wonder whether stopping this hasn't helped? She did have a fungal thing on her forehead a while back but that cleared up maybe she still has a fungal thing going on?

My two are very scurfy and, like you have said, they are not normally like that .... I think a bath will help, however my Cushings boy is still so hairy I cannot get to the skin

Mine seems to have grown an in between coat. He was clipped out in early Feb and has a great shine but his coat is coarser and longer than his summer coat normally is - it is like they just don't believe it is really summer! He works hard and competes regularly and if he does not get a proper summer coat soon I am going to have to resort to clipping as he sweats so much!

My boy is the same, still has a thick coat and sweats when working. He is also moulting all the time but the coat never seems to get and finer/ shorter. Very strange.

2 of ours are properly summered up, but 3 are still moulting and a bit dull all with that funny patchy faces, and my cushings lady was fully clipped but still has that course under hair stuff that grows back quickly.

Bathing does seem to help. Ours are all out together and fed the same feeds and supplements, the 2 with summer coats are the ones doing most work.
