weird lump on head

Hi . In the past 3 weeks I've noticed a boney lump on my horses forehead just about 2 inches from his eye. It doesn't seem to bother him but it looks bad, there are no marks that would suggest a kick and if he ran into something it would leave some sort of mark wouldn't it . Do you think l should get the vet out and have in xrayed . l'm worried he has broken something. He isn't discharging from nose but his eyes tear sometimes , but there is a lot of dust around because of drought we are in at the moment. Please help. Noe'l

My friend's mare developed one like this and there wasn't a mark on her otherwise but the vet she had probably hit a tree or the gatepost. It is a fracture callus and is harmless.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it. My old gelding developed two boney swelling above his eyes overnight and when the vet came he said much the same as yours. They were there for about 2 years and then seemed to disappear.....never caused any problems, just unsightly.
