Weird lumps in the saddle area?

Hey guys, I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this for me!!

When I bought my horse he had several seemingly painless lumps on the near side of his back roughly under the middle of the saddle. Vet came out and advised that they were not saddle sores, pressure lumps etc and diagnosed that they were "nothing to worry about" and gave me Synlar N cream for them which cleared it up.

Over the past two years these lumps have come and gone, always cleared up quickly with treatment, however this time I cannot shift them and he now has one on the off side too :confused: Saddler has been out, physio has checked his back - no issues there. I'm getting the vet back out at the start of next month as he's due his booster then anyway but wondered if anyone had any ideas? You can poke and prod and get no reaction so definitely not sore.

Help?? :confused::(
 
My horse had a similar thing they were collagen lumps which we treated with Fuciderm Steriod Cream from the vet.

Also, when I was trying to find out what my horse's were someone suggested it could be an ingrowing hair. To treat it they covered it in vaseline for several days and bingo it popped!!!! May be the case with yours, worth a try I guess!!?

But definitely think it's worth getting your vet out.
 
Were your horse's painless too? Sounds like it might me similar then because the synlar n cream is a steriod too, but maybe he needs to try a new one now. :confused: Will defo get the vet to look at it, going to wait till the start of May though because that way there will be enough of us to get a free call out lol. My bill will be bad enough as it is with booster, weird back lumps and teeth rasped plus sedation :eek::eek:
 
My boys suffers from these too! I have been told buy numerous people they are nothing to worry about, vets, physio, saddler fitter. They did go on their own, but occasionly one will spring up and go a few days later. He is chestnut and very thin skinned. I do press them just to make sure he doesn't react!!
 
Its very annoying! Whilst they don't bother him - they bother me! :eek: They are unsighly and shouldn't be there lol. Was googling like mad last night and collagen lumps seems the most likely but there seems to be a million and one reasons why they get them. Do you treat yours at all?
 
Mine gets lumps under his saddle too, I had the vet and he has urticaria. I have a photo of how they got the other week. They are totally harmless and vet said I was fine to carry on riding as normal, just to cold hose him after excersise and to keep saddle cloth/numnah very clean. I also put aloe vera gel on them, as it draws the heat out.

Sorry I know they are not very clear, but he get these popping up all over his left side.

Oh wow thats great thanks for posting! His are further up his back, right under the saddle but look similar. Do you wash them with anything? Hibiscrub or similar? :)
 
Hey I'm glad you posted this because Charisma has the same. They don't seem to cause her any pain, and actually seem to go down after she's ridden? So weird but have mentioned it to her owner!
 
My warmblood chestnut mare has had lumps like that. They never bothered her though, although one of them once went a bit scabby and would not heal up as t was in the summer and the flies would not leave it alone. I used to put nappy cream on it and just stayed off her for about 2-3 weeks until it healed up. I always ride her with a dead sheep (sheepskin numnah!) and she has been fine ever since.

Another chestnut mare I used to ride also had them and, again, never seemed to bother her.
 
I got some hibi scrub the other day I have not used it yet as I keep forgetting to take it with me... I have just been washing with baby shampoo atm and putting the aloe vera gel on. seems to get rid of the majority of the swelling. That photo was on a good day. He gets them all over his left side, mainly saddle area and some on his shoulder. They are worse in the heat hence keeping them cool.
 
Could be eosinophilic granulomas, they're usually harmless and don't burst or cause problems. Sometimes they just go away, sometimes they don't. Injecting them with corticosteroid gets rid of them, but more people aren't keen to go down that route, especially if there are lots of them!
 
Very interested in this post because my Arab has strange lumps under the saddle area too but only on her offside. She had some on her left shoulder but they are away. Three vets have looked at them with no real conclusion. No pain but the hair has rubbed away over the largest one, which now seems to be flatter in shape. Weird. Will ask my vets about the cream mentioned.
 
Its great to learn that my horse and I are not alone in this! Jenbleep - his seem better after riding too, wonder if the saddle pressure causes them to disperse somehow? Sorry can't remember who said that their horse only had them on one side, so did mine until about a week ago :( Horrible bloody lumps :(
