Ok, not really sure whether to post this but after a few glasses of wine it seems like a good idea!

some of you know that I have Ty (an irish TB) and have had him for 2 years. He's a typical ex racer (flat) and get's himself in a tizz sometimes. I've had some nasty falls off him but for some weird reason, still love him to bits.

I brought Oscar (another Irish TB who hasn't raced) and I have to say that I feel 110% safe on him. Even when I tried him on showmix (to fatten him off) and he bucked me off - I got straight back on and cantered off - because I knew there was a reason for it.

With Ty, even though I love him to bits and know that no body else would have him (blind in one eye with arthritic hocks!) I just never feel that safe on him. Hacked out today and the girl with me thought it would be funny to overtake him. I personally wouldn't do that on a hack and the whole way home he was like a coiled spring.....

So I feel guilty for not feeling safe on him although I know I could never get rid of him! I have a sharer who adores him so hopefully that will carry on.

so, my question is - how can I trust a horse I've had for 1 month and not one I've had for 2 years?

Sorry, that was very long and boring...haa haa x

My lad has never raced and he is as safe as houses!!Soooo laid back to the point of being exasperating, lol, bloody hard work,i am the other way, love im to bits but sometimes wonder had he been raced would he have been more forward going, and made life bit easier for me!!
However i do know what ya mean, especially when you are on a road on tenderhooks, not nice feeling!!

My mare isn't eve tb but she has a fair bit of tb in her I would say and she would go stir crazy if someone over took her - they are all individuals. Some are safe as houses, some are more unpredictable - humans are the same

Sounds like you have the perfect situation with having a sharer.

I have an Irish TB (he is also called Oscar) he raced and was used as a hireling for one season as well, you couldn't come across a more laid back TB but, if I get overtaken hacking he goes loopy. When we do big group rides the irish boys all have to go up front (we have two at our yard) or we have no chance stopping. Im lucky that he doesnt buck often but he leaps around.
I trust him 100% though even though he can be bloody sharp!!

I had that prob but the other way round at first!
At first I felt so safe on D even though he used to be a complete berk at times. Then something changed (probably D ditching me big time after christmas

) and Monty became the one I feel totally safe on.

Donnegan had perfected that coiled spring feeling

It was really un-nerving

I think there are just some horses you know don't mean to hurt you. Where-as D always took care of himself first

Still loved him for it though

It must be the breed mine tried to kill me 5 times yesterday .The girls on my yard said I must have been a cowboy in a previous life.If my boy spooks he goes into rodeo or even if hes nervous ,he does this big leap with all 4 feet off the ground then bucks unless I can get in quick. The only difference being he prefers to go behind because hes not very confident .Hes ex racer but not forward going but over quick to react and very lazy in the school Im hoping once his hock has fused (spavins)he might be a little better moving of my leg.I dont think anyone else would put up with him although hes a lovely horse.
