Before, it was always a case of Newcomers and 1.10m opens jumped together (with 2 prize givings) unless there were enough people to split the class.

But at the last 2 BSJA's I've been to, they have made the Opens jump first and do the jump off, THEN the newcomers do their first round and jump off, THEN its the prize giving for both (but split into 2 sections obviously).

I understand this is something to do with allowing horses to jump both classes? But my question is why the hell not have the prize giving after the 1.10 so they're run as 2 totally seperate classes? It's a bit peeing off doing our bit and then waiting around while the NC's jump before we can get our rossettes!

The reason they're doing it that way is because that's what the BSJA rules state they have to do...HOWEVER...i'm fairly certain they're supposed to run the NC's before the Open section to stop NC horses having a practice run round the course first

I think it should be that way round otherwise the NC horses would have an advantage over open horses having already jumped it once. Everyone has the option of putting their horse in both classes if they are NC so that is fair.

I really struggle to understand the logic behind the one prize giving and one course walk, messes everyone around.

I agree, it is seriously peeing a few people off! I think they should run the NC first, then the Open as seperate classes. Especially as most opens are doing the Foxhunter / 1.20 after whereas the NC's get to go home slightly earlier!

The BSJA decided that Newcomer horses weren't winning enough money as they were competing against open horses. So they decided to mess things up again by seperating the classes.

There is this really weird rule though that I cannot see the logic to at all - a 110 and NC can only be combined if it is the last class of the day in a progressive schedule. So as a result if a show is running a Fox and therefore a progressive/advanced schedule they can't combine the 2 classes. This results in some show centres dropping the 110 and just running a NC, which for those out of NC having to either jump a 105 or go straight into a fox.

I don't know why the BSJA just can't leave the showcentres alone to run the schedules that suit them and their competitors the best. I haven't spoken to anyone who has benefited from the BSJA's new progressive/advanced system. Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant but it just really annoys me!

I'll be seriously peed off if they dump our 1.10 Opens as that means, like you say, Id have to jump a 1.05 Open and then the Fox - a little different in height...! And would meaning hanging around for ages. They have to keep the 1.10 open as I think its the most popular class!

The simplest thing to do would be to run them as 2 seperate classes. Which is basically what they're doing already but in a messed up way!

I agree, I dont get the whole progressive / advanced thing.

One of our local show centres isn't even running the combined class when it is the last class of the day ! I don't know if they just don't understand that they can or what

The same show centre on other days though has also dropped the 1.05m open in favour of a restricted 1.05m/1.10m handicap whereby newcomers' horses can jump the 1.05m section but open horses must jump the 1.10m section.....wouldn't such an issue for me personally if the preceeding class wasn't a Disco...meaning I have to take Bo into a 1.10m cold which isn't what I want at the moment

all of the BSJAs ive been to have been like that as they put the newcomers up a hole from the 1.10!

They certainly shouldn't be doing that as the two classes are supposed to share a course walk

Rambo - I HATE that! When they don't cater for everyone and you end up only being able to jump one class! Its crazy.

millbrooksong - Yeah, they shouldn't be putting the course up a hole! BOTH classes are meant to be max 1.10m, and if anything Id expect the Opens to have to jump slightly bigger (although still shouldn't).
