Weirdness with near stifle - vet rec at Ashbrook?

I had the physio out to Blue (7yo HW cob) yesterday, and she's picked up on muscle wastage over her near quarters, and the stifle not locking properly. In a way, it's reassuring to have somebody agree with me that her stiffness on the left rein isn't just down to a schooling issue, but obviously the next step is to get the vet out and get it investigated.

I'm registered with Ashbrook, and will be calling this afternoon to make the appointment, once the physio has emailed her report through. Is there anyone in particular there that people would recommend for this kind of not-quite-lameness?

On the bright side, the physio thinks it's probably why she's so terrible with having her feet handled. She's not just throwing a strop because she doesn't like it. It hurts.

Also, being me, I'm already panicking over the worst possible scenario, so can somebody reassure me that she's probably not going to be an expensive field ornament for the next twenty years, and I'm not going to bankrupt myself finding that out?

Personally i would go straight to an orthopedic specialist who will be far more experienced at assessing your horse by eye as a start point before they got to any expensive diagnostic work.

Ashbrook wouldnt be my choice of vets for this type of work. My personal choice would be Campbell Thompson at Nantwich or Peter Schofield in Halifax.

No-one can re-assure that it will be OK until you have a vets opinion. who is your physio ?

Nantwich vets is thirded. I use one of the younger vets who I am very happy with, but Campbell and Toppy are the senior partners and are both excellent.

I find it cheaper to take the horse in there for a lameness work up. They have everything on site. They are not unduly expensive, either.
