here we go again, *sigh*. All the roads clogged behind wagons, horses and carts thumping past our house again, races on the A road, tethering with no water, on and on.

I say it every year, but it just doesn't get any easier. So many police designated "no camping areas" this year, I just hope it works. I find it all very unsettling, wish we could move right off the Appleby route (lived on it near Penrith before here).

Thanks god shy if now freeze marked.

Yup we've just had Wickham Fair.... Nightmare! Peoples tack rooms cleared out in broad daylight!! etc etc. And some people wonder why they are unwelcome!!!

Pity it can't be banned. I wonder how many dead or dying horses will be left behind this year and are currently tethered at the sides of the road with no water :( And for those of you who don't believe me - it happens - every year.

I'll be driving past on my way up from Cheshire to Newcastle this Tuesday. I go thru Kirkby Stephen, so see a lot of the horses tethered on the nearby roadsides. Have to say, whilst it would never be a way I'd keep horses, in the last 4 years I've been travelling that way, I've only ever seen healthy looking horses tethered. Not that this says a lot about what actually goes on or how they're treated mind but is better than seeing miserable scraps of things. Am glad I'm only driving thru however.

We have assorted "unhealthy" ones in a paddock not far from us - breeding, one can only assume, to produce more Appleby go-ers.

I just hope MY MISSING coloured cob doesnt end up there,I dread to think where he is at the moment.
I was really saddened by the youtube video of appleby,it had me in tears. Sad state of affairs.

The youtube video was showing them taking the horses into the water and dunking the horses head under the water. Also them booting the horses up the bum.One got thrown off.

I saw that video, there's little kids kicking and hitting a shetland as well little shits .

I can't imagine what you are going through. The chances are that your horse will NOT be at Appleby - so many change hands outside of the fair. But if he IS at the fair, there are Police and RSPCA covering it. I am sure you are in touch with Horsewatch, they may also have a rep there ??

But I would be sure to get in touch with Cumbria Police and the RSPCA, sending them a picture. You never know.

Thanks.Glad someone from Horsewatch will be there.I am so worried as he is a gypsy cob.
Tomorrow Im going to phone my local council as Ive been told that they found a coloured gypsy cob (no idea of size, colour,or where found) but apparently they got someone from Carmathen to come and take it.Dont know whether it is my boy or not but I am certainly going to find him no matter how long it takes.

There's no way it will ever be banned - it will just go "underground" if that's possible, and it would affect certain "Human Rights". Such a shame - the genuine gypsies do know how to care for a horse - it's the freeloaders who don't seem to. Their interest in the horse is only status ( the more the better, breed breed breed = money) now that the car has taken over from the working horse.
