I think she knew I was trying to sell her!

She's felt not quite right for a few days but I put it down to having strangers sit on her. She's a bit of a one woman horse so I wasn't particularly surprised that she refused to canter for one of them and that she wasn't soft or tracking up.

She was struggling to get a smooth left canter transition with me on Monday evening so I rang my chiro and booked her in for next Tuesday. She had last night off and then I planned a little schooling for tonight. The poor girl could only be described as "waddling" behind. Her whole pelvis looks really tight and sore.

Any ideas? Obviously I will be ringing the vet first thing in the morning but its always interesting to see what other people say. I've had a suggestion it could be internal pain such as kidneys or ovaries so anyone with experiences of that sort of condition would be great.

*A large glass of ginger wine for those who read this far*

Sorry sweetie i can't give you any help with the pelvis, but yes i think this is a vet/chiro job!

Oh the plus side i am secretly very very pleased that you are no longer selling her, i haven't wanted you to since reading your first post!!

Its seems strange that this has happened after new people on her, has she had this issue before?? maybe someone was quite heavy rider or sat heavily, and has made her uncomfortable? (sorry if that makes no sense?)

Are you sure she's not set fast, sounds like she's in some pain and from what you have said in the past she's an honest animal and there is a lot more cold weather on the way, so I'd rug her up and put her on some Bute. If I could afford her I'd snap your hand off and could I have a little whisky in the ginger wine.

I know the feeling of this. It's hard enough as it is without having them go lame! On the day I decided to sell B she went lame... the rest is history.

Everything happens for a reason, I very much believe that, maybe the perfect home just isn't quite ready for her yet. Huge hugs, I know how difficult it is x

She has had the odd bit of lameness/tightness in the past but then who's horse hasn't? She's certainly never looked like this before.

None of the people who sat on her were too heavy or of a poor standard so I'm going to guess its a coincidence. I can't see that any of them caused it.

She is very honest so for her to be displaying pain there is def something going on. She's not the type to milk a light scratch.

Whisky in your ginger wine

That sounds nasty although at the same time I'm intrigued...
*heads off into kitchen to invent a new cocktail*

she read the advert! they aare not stupid!!! have you never read or heard 'well she has never done that before'? if you advertise them they have a 75% chance they will break in some way or other to spite you!!!! hooves under the table syndrome!

This happens to Charlie at least once a year, sometimes it's worse then others.

His is because his pelvis is out of alignment, does her skin seem really tight over her back end?

Chiro has always sorted it out in one session although in sever cases (a friends horse was really bad - Lost a ton of weight, muscle and was visibly in pain) it can take a couple of sessions.

Are her back legs kind of shuffling along the floor when she walks? Is she sweating up at all? Does she 'wince' if you press along her hind quarters and either side of her tail?
My first thought, as with snowysadude was possibly tied up....

No sweating up but a very strong reaction if your run your fingernails over her backend.

She's turned out during the day and in at night for livery restrictions. I suspect she'd be better out all night as well but there's nothing I can go about that.

A thought just occurred, do you think she could have got cast and pulled something? I've never seen her cast but her rubber mats had alot of scrabble marks on them a few nights ago...

Ok cool well if tied up or in any doubt (so if shuffly with back legs at all or not tracking up at all with both back legs) dont turn out in the morning whatever you do! Also if she is better in the morning chances are she was tied up as it usually subsides quite quicky and you musnt move them as it causes muscle degeneration, the more they more the worse it is! Im sure the vet could tell you more

As for cast i would doubt the effects would have taken so late to show, you would have thought she would have been a lot worse a few days ago (not just slightly struggling) - but you may well be right, hopefully your vet will be able to tell you more in the morning though

How do you mean tight? She doesn't look odd standing still, just when she moves.

When Charlie has put his pelvis out the skin always feels really tight/taught, if I run my hands over his backend it just feels really tense, not relaxed like it would usually be. It's really hard to explain but I think if it was 'tight' you would notice it if you run your hands over her, so I'm guessing it's not.

Hope she's OK, keep us posted!

Just to be on the safe side, I wouldn't turn out until vet has had a look......he/she will be able to tell from bloods if her AST and CK levels are raised...

Either way, hope she gets well soon
