Thought I'd get on here quick and let you know how she did today at Buckminster
. She had Humungahorse in the 6yr old Novice qualifier and also had another ride in one of the other Novice sections - sorry don't know many details about that horse except she is called Marmalade and is very smart looking - although not as smart as HH
She did a cracking dressage test on HH to score 26.9 (I think, def 26. something) and was lying second in her section. So anyone who knows BD will know that she is very competitive and also a bit of a perfectionist - so no pressure on herself then
The girl who was lying first went in to SJ and had 2 down..... HH warmed up like the cool customer that he is and was making it all look far to easy to be honest. It was torrential rain by this point and I didn't dare put my big umbrella up in case I upset anything or anyone! The course was very colourful in a nice big arena but there were a few mutterings that it wasn't very big - looked plenty big enough to me thank you very much especially the oxer at 3. HH came in and I think looked a bit disdainful at these apparently 'meagre' fences
Now I've had a few bangs to my head in my time and in driving rain too I guess I am not that observant - so I'll let BD fill you in on all the details on which fence did what - but he looked very smooth and relaxed to fence 2 which to me looked on a bit of an odd distance from 1 - lot of horses were getting deep to it and taking the pole off. HH didn't fall into this trap if I remember rightly but perhaps looked a bit casual to tip a pole off. Mothers face looked like this
he woke up a little but still didn't think the fences were high enough and had another pole.... at this point I was tempted to run in and put the fences up for him but I think that would be against the rules on many levels
He got a big of a kick on after that and got a little onward bound - he told me afterwards that he thought that is what the slave wanted but sadly not. He ended up on 3 down which was such a shame. BD was
and as always blaming herself.... regardless of whether the fences were on the small side or not I didn't see many clear rounds. Although Marmalade didn't help matters by jumping a lovely clear round and being the swot!
BD shook herself off, put on her kermit outfit and got off to the XC. I told her I would stand by the water in case she decided to swim again this week - if looks could kill I think I would be in the mortuary
No need to worry as HH was awesome. He made the water look so easy - it was a solid looking table with 1/2 strides into drop into water - with a skinny out. There was a squeak as they approached the water and we couldn't quite determine if it came from horse or rider - or perhaps the both of them - but it was looking good. He bounded round the rest to finish clear with 4 time penalties and looking pretty pleased with himself. Kermit was now looking like this
- thank god! We sorted horse out and then gave Kermit a large Pimms. She ended up 5th and has qualified. There were still mutterings about SJing all winter, but to be honest the more I topped up her glass and shoved a bit of cake in she soon quietened down. In fact I have no idea if she has even made it home yet - she may be face down in a hedge at Buckminster sleeping it off whilst clutching her rosette
I def think it is time for bigger fences for HH - I have never seen such a cool grown up customer for his age, he really is special.
