Did anyone see the report this morning on the news about looking after an animal in winter? They interviewed an RSPCA inspector who said they had over 20 calls yesterday about neglected horses with no rugs on, and said all the horses were checked and were native types and did not require rugs, and to check first before calling the RSPCA.
I think they should have explained more about native types personally, some people might still not understand.......

Yes I saw it and I remember thinking they should have explained more. It gave the impression that all horses were fine naked outdoors, but they wouldn't be if they were unroughed off TB's for example. The public won't know the difference in horse types so may be left with the impression that all horses are fine.

Was pleased they reported though but it was a bit ropey on detail.

I saw it as well.............. it was a bit sketchy if you KNOW what was missed out, but at least the message was passed that not all horses need rugging. She mentioned "native types" "a good coat" and "shelter" which, although not perfect, was a start, and as much as she could get across in the few seconds she had!

I thought it was a useful report. Father in law (raised on farm!) has already commented on how sad it is that a local horse isn't wearing a rug. Non horsey OH has tried to explain...

But did have a smirk when I noticed the handler was stuffing treats into the horse next to a "do not feed the horses" sign.
