It so nearly went to the showjumpers

I have to say though, Shane Brean's round was probably the most foot perfect round to watch

I agree - it was an excellent performance by both Gary and Peter Street. However, I was appalled by Georgie Spence. She did NOT need to wallop her horse the way she did. I counted at least half-a-dozen strokes of the whip. Neither Andy Austin or Mike Tucker said a word - they probably couldn't believe what they were seeing either. A stark contrast from the way Harry Meade handled his mare when she acted up. He sat calmly and never went to the whip. The mare rewarded him for it. I also watched Houghton Hall 2009 and saw another horrid display of whipping - this time by Amanda Ratcliffe. Her horse (Sonic Boom) refused once and received a right smacking. She was also commentating and said she thought at the time he deserved it. Matt Ryan (who was also commentating) agreed. Then SB refused the same fence again and got another whipping. AR then realized the horse was tying up and badly. That poor horse must have been really sore and all he got for it was a completely unnecessary beating. Then I watched some John Whitaker junior class from the Royal Show and saw another disgusting spectacle. This girl came in (I do not care to remember her name, but the pony was CJ's Kemosabi) and she had a horrid sneer on her face. I could tell straight away that she wasn't the sort of girl I'd want to meet and I was right. About half-way through their round, Kemosabi had a refusal and she gave him a right thrashing with the whip. The female commentator more or less said he deserved it (shame on her). Anyway, as they were going over the last fence, the little brat lifted her whip again (this is in mid-air) and brought it down as hard as she could. Kemosabi had it down as a result. The male commentator said that was him getting his own back, so good on him for disagreeing with the brat's behavior. And last week I saw some barrel racing. A girl (determined to be the winner) whipped her horse as hard as she could 10-times in a row, then not long after her round, a boy came out (without a whip) and was 3-seconds faster. And lets not forget the tantrums of Laura Renwick and Ellen Whitaker.

It is high time these horrible things were banned!!

Don't forget Marian Hughes at the water ditches at Hickstead last year either.

I though that the BSJA had rules no more than 3 smacks at any one incident?????????????

*choosing to ignore the above as I've no idea what's going on*

Well done Gary. Not often someone from East Yorks does so well

It is too bad they don't enforce that rule. Any rider breaking it should be eliminated and given some kind of suspension. That might make them think twice. And what are the rules within eventing?
