Took my new boy to his first BSJA show today. I wasn't really sure it was the right thing to do as he's only seen one course of fences to date and that was 2 weeks ago (un-aff).

Started with the 80cm open, 3 wall type fillers and lots of other scareys. He didn't bat an eyelid at anything and jumped a faultless (if occasionally fast) round. Same in jump off and despite me taking wide lines he still managed second place.

Up a gear and in to the BN.
Again a faultless first round. Jumpoff I went half way round the county to give him a decent ride as I wanted that double clear. Got it and he still came 2nd again.

So he now has £29 on his card from his first BSJA and only second ever SJ comp.

Right, where shall i go next

Wow bet you are thrilled. Sounds like you will soon be out of BN!! So sounds like you will soon be called double clear!!

Moulton Colledge.

BB - I shouldn't worry just yet. As the saying goes "One swallow doesn't make a summer" but he did feel awesome. As the fences went up he just seemed to enjoy it more. Never looked like touching a pole let alone rolling one.

Think I'd better avoid open classes until he has the other 3 DC an BN.

You might not get all the cash as notional for the 80cm open.

Oooh hope not. I could do without having to rush him through the lower levels.

Have we seen any photos of this new horse please (very nosey here!). I must have missed his arrival....how old is he? What are your aims? etc etc

Great result ! Well done

Time for a name change methinks

As for the winnings, I think second place in BN is only about £12 notional and the 80cms is unlikely to be more so you may not be as badly off as you think

Well done.

I was there and thought you both did really well. My baby horse hated it and had a real panic about it. But i didn't think the course was very well built and they seemd to have crammed so many fences into the ring. Alright on an older or more established horse. Shame really as it is a nice place, just don't think i'll go again.

I didn't see you. You should have shouted at me. Getting a little senile in my old age.
I found the courses ok. Only issue I really had was the fence 4/9 issue in the 80 open.

Wow that is good!! 2nd in both and not even really trying for it!

Reading that really makes me think i should get on with it and go on Sunday!
