I just couldn't believe a phone call I answered this morning. I was at work when my phone rang and this woman said to me "Can you come and look at my horse please because it's had the runs now for about 3 days". I asked her why was she phoning me and she answered "Because you're a vet". I told her unfortunately I'm not, I own a mobile catering business" but I said I did breed and have 35+ years of owning horses so what was her problem.
She said her horse she'd had for just over 4 years had poo pouring out of its back end looking like water. I asked if it had eaten anything strange, changed diet, etc etc and she said no. I said in that case you'd better phone your vet. She said "That's just it, I don't have a vet". I asked her who had been going out to do routine tet/flu vacs, and her response was "What's that then?" I explained that the majority of horse owners make sure their horses are vaccinated on a regular basis and her response "Well, I never knew that - do they have to had injections done then". She also had no idea about worming either. How on earth do some people get away with owning a horse - made my blood boil. Mind you, she's been very lucky not having had to call in a vet for over 4 years!
