…it doesn’t matter what it looks like 🙈

Poor boy is struggling with this extended sun. He’s had to move to a shady stable cause in the afternoon it hits his standing spot (he has to come in for some weight control) and he’s got factor 50 on constantly which he hates getting done. I can’t find a nose cover that will cover his whole huge muzzle so I had to improvise. This is a size L nose cover 😂

It may be a total failure but anything is worth a try before I have to consider stabling him for a lot longer. I confirmed he can eat, drink and scratch with it.

Can you get a childs UV protection t-shirt and fashion something from that? should be easy enough to do.
ill keep it in mind if this doesn’t work. Thankfully it’s only on one side (the side the sun hit when he was in the stable before being moved) and a very slight bit on the other nostril. My rug repair lady is great at making wacky things for me for his elephant proportions. She made him a custom ice boot one time when he was impossible to get any sort of boot for lol

I used to stitch on old tea towel to my pink nosed pony in the summer. Helped keep the sun and the butter cups off his nose. He wouldn't tolerate anyone touching his nose with creams etc, but the tea towel worked a treat. Had to have it so it hung over the top of his nostril by about an inch to avoid it getting in the way when he breathed in.

If there are any trashed fly rugs lying around at the yard you could maybe salvage some of the material and improvise a nose cover.

Have you tried Filtabac? It was a godsend with Archie. He used to burn his nose all the time and wouldn't keep a nose guard on. Filtabac is so thick and gooey that it really stays put. I could put in on in the evening and it would protect him the next day. It stays white so you can see when it's worn off.

I’ll grab some of that too :)

I too had an old leather headcollar with a tea towel folded in half and sewed over the full noseband.

nowadays I'd have thought a kids 50 spf t shirt from the supermarket would be ideal material - lighter weight than my old tea towel !!
