I would say you possibly do need a novice ride - I take it you want something quiet, non spooky, non bolshy on the ground and without issues? That's a novice ride....nothing wrong with wanting that

all I'm saying is that just because somethings a cob doesn't mean it's a novice ride, but you know that now I guess (I've only just realised it myself!)
 
no really i dont need a novice ride :}
i just cant abide bolshy and no manners on the ground.
i had my last horse 12 yrs from a unbacked 2 yr old which i backed myself , without a saddle for first year as i couldnt afford one !!
he was always extremly forward going to the point you couldnt use any leg .
but on the ground he was well mannered :}
so truly i would be bored with a plod
