This season's over for Liberty - he got kicked in the field two days ago and the vet is more worried about it than I was, so he's having x-rays on Monday, box rest (yuck, he's a mucky bugger in the stable), plenty of hosing and anti-biotics and anti-inflammatories. So that makes that decision simple! And William will do the PAVO champs if he's allowed to by BE (his passport doesn't show his dam's side so I've been doing loads of investigative stuff - see old post in Breeding for more info), then finish as I didn't have any money in my account to enter Twesledown proper the following weekend! So, don't need to worry about trying to get excited about doing a few more Novices at this end of the season!

Poor Liberty, keep us updated

Really hope they sort out William's breeding, does seem all a bit ridiculous?!?! Probably since that big muck up when the winner turned out to be a year older than it should have been....

Oh no poor Libby. Hope its nothing serious.
Hope they can sort out this PAVO thing, sounds stupid that you can't enter without knowing their breeding, what about potential Toytowns'?

It's not like I don't know it - I could recite it in my sleep! But we never had Woodlark graded in Belgium, so they didn't put her on there (and even if they had they wouldn't have recorded her parentage on there).

The x-rays are a precaution really, he's not lame so the vet said we would be very unlucky if there was a hairline fracture there.

Poor Liberty!! Was it naught WIlliam who kicked her?
Hope her x-rays are clear.
Surely plenty of horse's passports are not complete on the dam side, fingers crossed you get it sorted.

Fingers crossed that the vet is overreacting. Also hope PAVO comes off for you.

Fingers' crossed it turns out ot be nothing serious.
Iknow what you mean re breeding, two of our mares are out of a Weatherbys' NT reg mare, although she's dead I still have her passport and her pedigree was verified by them originally. When I tried to get full passports for the mares they refused to ackowledge their dam's passport, so it's stalemate. Both have passports but not theirs. IF I owned the dam and the stallion, am happy to have siblings blood tested (at enormous cost) they really should stop being difficult.
I hope you find the info you need, I've managed to trace some mare's we bought right back to their breeder (sadly he did't keep any paperwork) but at least I know who they're bloodlines are!
What does BE require, a breed society passport?

Oh No what a shame, poor Lib.

No wonder British breeding is in such a mess when you can only compete at a showcase event of a horse with proven lines.

What about all those with a bit of 'bog' pony in them that no one knows what it is.

The way they are going only TB's and well established WB lines will be allowed to compete. The british event horse is always known to often have a dash of pony or draught breeding. The inportant thing is that it showcases what the stallions can produce with a 'mixed race mare'

Hear hear Thistle. Quite agree. That is how the true tough eventer is bred. Will be a real shame if William does not get to compete!
Sorry to hear about Liberty !! I was looking forward to him getting some more wins/placings!! But at least he has finished his season on a really super note.

Liberty's a BOY Fiona!

And yes, he's quite a lazy type so I can quite imagine he stood behind William and wound him up unti lhe kicked him so as to avoid more work!

I can see BE's point about proven breeding - after all we all moan enough about not keeping up with the continentals when it comes to knowing what our country's got in terms of lines. It's possible if I hadn't brought it up they would have let it slide, but then they could have pulled me up on the day when I wouldn't have been able to do anything about it which would have been more disappointing. As it is I've found out some pretty interesting stuff (hear hear re the bog pony and draught comment - W's got both

). Speaking of PAVO they haven't got many entries in the 4 and 6 yo's, I imagine quite a few more than that qualified. I haven't actually had a letter or anything (as far as I know, I'm very bad about opening post) saying I qualified, and I know many horses "qualified" several times, in which case it's supposed to pass down the line, so I wonder if there are quite a few people out there who don't know they've qualified?! Also nowhere on the BDWP entry form does it ask you to actually tell them where you acheived your qualifying result!

Hope Liberty is ok

And so hope you can compete W in the PAVO finals as im sure he would give those pro's a run for their money!!

Let us know how Libs is

That's a b***er about Liberty, isn't it? I hope it's nothing serious.

I got my letter about having qualified for the PAVOs about a week later, so yours must be in your heap of unopened post! I thought the same, that it was odd they didn't ask where you qualified, but I guessed they were that organised they had a list of those that had, and would double check with that when they got your entry.
