Got down the yard last night to find Senza in her stable with her turn out under rug ripped in to 1000 pieces. Luckily the brand new t/o rug was untouched, phew!!!

Anyway didn't think nothing of it and tacked up and went down to the school. Walked around for a bit and then asked for trot and she was hopping lame

Got off her and trotted her up on the hard surface and she was just as lame. There is not heat or swelling though so she must of just pulled something trying to get the rug off in a panick.

Decided its best to leave her in today but went down this morning to check her and keep her calm whilst the others went out (she has smashed the stable up 3 times in the past coz of the others going out without her

).

Anyway i trotted her up again and luckily she was nowhere near as lame as she was last night, it was literally only just visible thank god. She also was a good girl when the others were turnt out. A bit of fidgeting but stood quitely eating her hay until one of them went out of sight and she started rearing and bucking

But settled again as soon as they came out from behind the bush

A few people on the yard have said that if she is sound tomorrow then they would still take her XC on Sunday, i on the other hand am really worried that i could make matters worse if i dont give it enough time to heal.

I am really gutted as i was so looking forward to this event as it is our first one this year and our first ever XC. Not to mention all the time i have put in getting her fit etc but i'm not sure its a risk i am willing to take

Where are you going XC? Just being nosy!!

If it was my horse and it was totally sound on sat I would probably go, but only if they were completely sound on sat and of course sun morning.

But it is up to you

Its only a local thing just down the road and i will only be jumping 2'3 so nothing major but i have got an affiliated show the week after which is obvioulsy more important and i dont want her to be lame before that.

Its also her first XC so dont want her to really ping something and land funny.

As much as it would have been great to take her on sunday. Personally I wouldnt risk it.
There is always another one round the corner. What you dont want to happen is to hamper her competing next week too.

Save her for another day.

Spose it depends what she had done. Is it an option to get the vet out?

Depends how bad it is now and was originally.

If you are in doubt then dont go

Aw how guttin for you, horses like to do things like this at the most inappropriate time. In my view I wouldn't risk Sunday, its early in the year and the last thing you want is a horse out for the season with a tendon injury or something like that

Thats exactly what i thought BB's. Its only a fun XC thing, not competing serious or anything whereas next week i will be as its a qualifier for scope!!!

If it was just a cut and she was ok by Sunday then i probably would of gone but seen as she has actually pulled something i dont really want to take the risk.

I'm gutted though but like you say there is always another one round the corner.

oh - i'm glad she's a bit better today though, hopefully it won't be serious, but only you know your horse.

didn't realise you had a qualifyer next week, in that case, even if she does appear sound, i'd leave the xc for another time. bearing in mind you don't know what she's going to be like, she also could go bit mad, which won't help her heal!

it's such a shame tho as i know how much you were looking forward to it!

Bx

Ha ha i just emailed you telling you all about it!!!!!

I was really looking forward to it as i haven't done XC in about 15years but like BB's said there will be others and its not worth the risk

Oh you dont have much luck do you, but as the others have said its better to have her sound for the qualifier then a local XC event
smile.gif

Where is the show you going to? And whats the smallest Scope qualifier there is??

Its at Patchetts next Sunday but i think Vicarage Farm is running the event (thats what my friend said anyway).

The smallest Scope qualifier is 1mtr which is what i am doing
smile.gif
Probably wont qualify anyway but you have to be in it to win it so they say

My friends horse did this and was lame as well. However she was lame as she had cut the inside of her back legs really high up where they join from the leg straps - so I would have a look there and make sure she is alright.

The rug didn't have any leg straps on it which is why i think it slipped

she has had it on out in the field before and it has never been a problem as she has always had one on other the top as well but she was obviously getting herself into mischief yesterday and it slipped!!!

I checked all her legs and she has a tiny little nick on her front right and on her back right but the leg she is lame on is her front leg which has no cuts, swelling, heat or anything

She was much better today though and the lameness was hardly noticable which suprised me as she was hopping last night and i thought i would end up with a vets bill but just gonna keep my eye on it and rest her up for the next few days. Then i will turn her out for a couple of days and providing all goes well i will start gently riding her again middle of next week.
