Well had issues with Fleur keeping weight on and changed her on to D&H build up cubes and they do seem to have started to make a positive difference BUT i think I'm going to have to try a different conditioning mix (been suggested Baileys No 4 by trainer and few people off here so think that next stop) as shall we just say she has a little too much energy today!!

Today had a dressage lesson and started out ok although not 100% concentrating then about 10 mins in she spooks and shoots forward but nothing major and I get her back working ok, then about 10-15 mins later as two little ponies were being bought in to the stables next to the school she just exploded. I seriously thought I was heading earthwards as did instructor but somehow managed to stay on for what was a good 10-20 seconds worth of broncing. Managed to finish off well and got some good work out of her but I did feel like I was on a coiled spring waiting to explode for the rest of the lesson.

So yes next feed to try to attempt to continue to improve her condition but not give her excess energy as I rather would prefer to not endure further bucking fits....

We used calm and condition for the big girl when she needed some weight on following abscess in foot and it worked very well, may be worth a try.

I have stopped using Baileys no 4 as I found it was OK if you were riding every day but once the weather changed and I wasn't able to ride very often although I reduced it the ponies became very lively. So I have stopped using it. However having said that once they are in daily work again I may well go back to it. I have been using a top dressing of Alpha Beet instead to keep condition on and they haven't taken quite so long to settle down when I do ride. Does the calm and condition "do what it says on the tin"?

It did for our big mare, can't say about any one else though! My Appy is still a bit on the pudgy side and she is only eating hay.

Thanks for that, she is back to being worked a good 5/6 days a week now (thankfully have indoor school even if it is small) so she is in regular work but NO 4 might be too much I think will try (as been offered half a bag from friend).

Instructor found build up had seemingly similar effects to her dressage horse as it is now having with fleur. She then moved on to Baileys No 4 which she hasn't had issue with.

Got a feeling I might be trying a few feeds with her until I can find the one with gives the right balance between condition and energy, she is very sensitive (hence the weight loss in the first place) which makes it all the more the challenge, although must say although it makes our ridden work more interesting would rather I do get her with more condition and just a bit sharp for now until spring grass comes through, that is as long as I can continue to keep sitting to her exuberant moments of course
