Some of you may remember that I acquired a little ginger thing a month ago...
She is a 3yo ex-racer and hasn't been done anything with since October, and I have gone back to the beginning and treated her as if she is unbroken.

Since arriving we have almost banished the 'Eff you' attitude, learnt that keeping all hooves on the floor is a good idea, discovered the benefits of forward thinking on the lunge/long reins instead of intense nappiness and tantrums and she has been renamed 'Fiammetta' which means 'little ginger thing' in Italian - oh so true!!!

Tonight it was time for the maiden voyage!

She was pretty near perfect, we just walked around the school in each direction a couple of times and then called it a day as the light was disappearing fast

Really pleased with her

Piccies in a sec once PB has decided it wants to play the game!

Not often enough do I hear how it has been done right - this seems to be one of those rare occasions.

All credit to you as she seems to have been a bit of a madam and to have gone all the way back to scratch takes a maturity and patience sadly lacking in a lot of people.

I'm going to keep an eye out for posts about her progress and wish you much reward for your efforts.

You have every right to be pleased.

Thanks so much brighteyes

I am putting into practice everything the past 5 or 6 ex-racers have taught me - with each one I have learnt more and none of them have been disasters, but this time it feels, well, just *right*

I am posting her progress as she is the first new arrival I have had to work on since I've been a regular poster, so thought people may be interested to watch her grow into something
special.

And when she arrived...

That is so good to hear, so many poeple are in a rush and dont stop and take their time and go right back to basics. I would have done exactly the same. I believe the time spent doing groundwork and gaining respect is invaluable. Well done and keep up the excellent work

I have to agree completely with Brighteyes.

I am a complete newbie to all this horse training malarky, but I have in the past trained and flown birds of prey (which are amazingly similar in many respects).

It can be done fast OR it can be done right.

Bounty, you have my admiration, I look forward to seeing how 'The Ginger Thing' gets on in the future.

Thanks all.

In fairness to her, in the 'before' she had just come off the trailer after a 2hour journey, so she was rather sweaty and tucked up

but either way... I'm ultra thrilled with her

she was a bit of a state when you got her poor thing

I disagree. She looks what she was - something that had been in the field since October. But her condition was pretty good.

Bounty she looks so like a little horse I know. She really is lovely. Hope you have some great times ahead with her.

I 'imported' her from S.Wales.... so it's possible?!

No - the one I'm thinking off had a kiss off me this morning

She looks great - I remeber the pics you sent me last month and she def has improved a lot in that time.

Well done!

Thanks

I managed to get hold of a 16.5" square cantle WH saddle which is being fitted on thursday, so hopefully we can have enough of a walk/trot to have it fitted properly

The little saddle she has on now isn't too uncomfy for her, but I'm not a fan!
