Well that told me

Well I admire you for not criticising either the horse or the owner and whinging and moaning but accepting the criticism and taking responsibility for it. I doubt there are any decent riders out there who have not had similar said to them at one time or another, the difference between them and poorer riders is that they then use it as the motivation to go on and do somthing about it. You might not become the best rider in the world but we can all become better.

It woudl be easy to blame the owner for placing an unsuitable horse with you or blaming you, but as we all know, the owner is only trying to speak up for the horse and sometimes you dont know how something will work out in practice. Theres nothing worse than seeing a previously well schooled horse deteriorate so I guess thats where she was coming from.

Yes, it makes you feel horrible, but it happens to the best riders and at least you have the right attitude to it.

Don't feel too bad. If you had already lost your confidence on him you were not going to be riding him to the best of your ability anyway plus if she's had him years and knows him well she is obviously going to get more out of him - she knows what buttons to press. Continue having lessons - or as others have said go for intensive course of lessons somewhere really good - then maybe look to loan or better still get your own horse then you'll not be beholden to anyone. I had been riding on and off for years but when looking for my first horse realised how rubbish I was so went back for lessons for 18 months before looking for a horse again. I still have regular riding school lessons on their horses and lessons on my own horse (and my friend STILL rides my horse better than me

). No one is perfect and what fun or challenge would there be if we were!

I know what owners can be like, as I have loaned 3 horses.

I can imagine you must be feeling terrible right now, but please try letting it go over your head. You need to find a nice horse who will complement you and vice versa. Look online, in local tack shops and in riding magazines for something to loan and get an instructor who will help you gain your confidence and not 'tear you to pieces' which some can do.

I really do feel for you, she was being unnecessarily horrid, probably to make herself feel good about her own ability.

My horse goes beautifully for everyone except me lol!

Good luck hun xxx
