got a phone call from my yard saying that my boy had cut himself and that his leg was slightly swollen.

When I went up there was blood dripping down his leg so we got the vet to have a look at it.

Please note that he was wearing a pair of woof wear club brushing boots. The vet said that if it wasn't for these boots, he would have cut through his tendons so he was very lucky.

We're now back to square one as he's lame and had only been back in work for a week after pulling his sacroiliac muscle.
I honestly feel like crying..

Now I have to try to find out what happened as another livery has similar injuries but more severe.
 
poor cody tried to jump the fence but hit it so he's got similar cuts up to his stifles and both of them have ripped the chestnuts off on their front legs.

we're thinking a loose dog or something similar as cody was found in the same field as rogan and they're all turned out in separate fields.
 
they were both feeling rather sorry for themselves last night.
I'm really not looking forwards to getting my bill :(

oh well.. I'm off to wonder round muddy field to look for the cause. wish me luck
 
well i've went up to the yard and spent a good while wandering around the field he was in and I'm still none the wiser :(

I've come to the conclusion that something has spooked jerry, he's bolted, ended up tangled in the wire fence and cut himself trying to get free.

He's feeling very sorry for himself at the moment - he doesn't even want to move for a treat. I feel bad not giving him any pain killers :(

we've got the vet tomorrow at 9am so hopefully he can walk a little bit otherwise i'll be insisting on painkillers as it's horrible to see him like this.
 
He is so lucky you put boots on him when turning him out, that could of been disastrous without them... wishing him and his pal a speedy recover :)
 
im thinking full body armour when he's finally turned out again :p

found some kevlar-lined boots online for £17 a pair so i've ordered some for the big clutz :rolleyes:
 
having too much fun and acting like a yearling (he's 20) :p

"Dread to think of the consequences otherwise" - consequences would have been damaged tendons and possible pts. thank god for woof wear
 
well the vets been up to change the muppet's dressing and finally given him some bute as he was seriously lame yesterday (he wouldn't move even for a treat and he's usually in my pockets looking for them).

The vet reckons the wound is infected :( so he's got 4 days worth of antibiotics to take until the next visit on monday.

Im still no closer to finding out what happened although i did talk to one of the other liveries, who told me that their pony did the splits in the same field and ended up on box rest for 2 months, so something must be happening down there :confused:

moral of the story: make sure my horse is in a field with wooden fencing (and is wearing full body armour :rolleyes:)
