Today after 40 mins or so at a ladies yard (she provides training and advice) she managed to load the beast, I could have hugged her!
Just thought I would post to let people who replied know that he loaded by us moving each of his legs for him which helped him gain confidence and he travelled very well. A little bit novicey with his feet but soon settled down. He is now in his field and he settled very well.
Pictures are in the PG.
Thanks to everyone who replied to my posts.

Glad to hear you managed to load the unloadable

Thanks, I am hiring a trailer to be his field mate to try and work on him to become fully 'loadable'.

Please don't put the trailer in his field, some one we know moved their mare to a yeard where trailers were left in the field and she sustained a horrific injury to her hip, took 12 months to recover (they had to hose the hole out each day!)
They brought the mare back to the livery yard we were all on at that time and it was such hard work for them and very painful for a very patient mare, who fortunately made a full recovery.

I'd agree with this - the outside of trailers aren't really horseproofed, and you might find your lovely trailer acquires some holes too, when a fat equine bum has rubbed on it

You could always run some electric fence round it though, and then it's still handy to feed in or whatever?
I hope you have fun with him.

Owch sounds very nasty glad to hear she recovered.

It was bad, but she was such a good natured girl that she put up with all the treatment with no fuss at all. The couple who owned her worked tirelessly to sort her out.

It seems to be about trust as this morning he refused to go back into his stable and worried if I went to push him on but standing there talking to him for 5 mins and he went in so hopefully I am doing the right thing as that was the approch which got him onto the trailer yesterday.
