And Lord is on ristricted turnout and anti-Bs for 5 days, resting for 4 days then working again on the 5th if the swelling has started to go down. Is 1/10 lame if that.

BUT

Have been told it is possible that he has fractured his splint bone :( If he hasn't improved at all after 3-4 days it's off to the vets for Xrays :( *cries*

My poor beast, please send some vibes his way.....I've already lost one horse to a broken leg...I don't need to loose another:(

STOP PANICKING!!

The vet mentioned it as a possibility, lots of vibes on your way, hoping it is just a flesh wound.

I have never known a splint bone fracture to mean the end of a horse, or even the end of its working life! It is not like there is a suspected cannon bone fracture here, splint fractures are fairly common and even if surgery was required the outcome is generally very good. I know of a very good dressage horse that has had surgery on both front legs to 'remove' splint bones.

My own horse was kicked in the field not long after I bought him, and eventually was diagnosed with a splint fracture. There were also a couple of floating chips of bone.

My horse did not need surgery. Strict antibiotic therapy and box rest was all that was required. He has been left with a lump of new bone but he is as sound as ever at 19 now. All the photos in my sig are from AFTER the accident!

I am sure it's not as bad as you are imagining at all and, even if it was a fractured splint bone, my understanding is they are fairly easy-to-fix fractures and, worst case scenario I believe they can remove the splint bone.

I am sure it will not come to that though so stop worrying!!

appologies for worrying :( It's just not nice seeing him with a fat knee and leg, and after being through the "leg break" route with my old horse I cannot help but worry a bit.

Will post an update in a few days when hopefully all is back to normal. He has been left in magnet boots and is having a PEMF & massage rug on later tonight ( the advantage of being on a therapy yard with a FAB manager!)
