I think what HorseandShoes is getting at, is that most of these posts aren't from novices, they are just from over zealous horse owners. As a YO, I don't believe some of the things horsey people worry about. One girl on my yard, despite her horses grazing quite happily, gets them in if it rains, never seen a rusty horse yet:D Another is rugging her horse up so snugly that all the moisture from it sweating all night is wicking it's way to the top rug and every morning it resembles my car, frozen over:) At the end of the day although it's nice to think of them warm and snug, they are horses, they are well used to adapting to our changeable weather and have been given thick coats for the purpose. Most of them have such humungous haylage nets at night that there owners can hardly carry them in. One lady must give her 16.2 the equivalent of 25/30 kgs of haylage, plus whole tub of readigrass, plus bucket feed, plus enough carrots to keep a container load of rabbits, buffeting for a week, plus sweets left all around the stable walls for him to find at night. Sorry this is turning into a rant:D Take care all of you in this ice and snow

Gosh nice to know you were never someone new to horses at one time then OP. So what if people are asking for help over what you consider beneath you? Don't bother to read the threads!

I'd rather people asked away than felt awkward about asking because of threads like this. We are ALL learning, it's a lifelong journey. Some may be further along the path than others but that doesn't give any of us the right to poo poo anyone else. To me it is being an intelligent, caring and diligent horse owner asking questions. Scaring people off of asking these questions might just cause a horse or pony harm in some cases.

Well Said...

I came to this forum from another precisely because of one member that made everyone feel stupid for their questions. He would act all indignant and say things like "that's absolute rubbish, you have no business owning a horse!" (he's an Englishman - very interesting that he's not on here - and the site is American. I've noticed that Americans will take a lot of abuse and think of it as 'learning' if it's delivered with an English accent - no offense intended by this comment). In fact, that forum is like a ghost town now because of his and a few others attitudes.
Often when I ask a question, I'm pretty sure of the answer, I just need validation. I don't need to be harangued and made to feel stupid because I asked. If I think a topic looks like something that doesn't interest me, it's easy, I don't open it!

These forums are set up so people can ask questions. We all share the same thing in common so why can't we have a little chat about it? If you don't like a "Are you turning out post?" Don't bother to read it.

:o This has been happening with my horse, every morning the outer part of her heavyweight Masta stable rug is wet... I thought that it was frozen condensation or something... colour me embarrassed. I will take a layer off her tomorrow night and see if it stops happening. Poor horse of mine. I feel like a bigger tool than normal.

See the 'daft' threads are all useful in their own way :)

It's a commoner problem than you would think - don't feel silly :hugs:

OPs post and lack of tolerance is exactly what is wrong with this forum atm, and why so many useless and needless pages of argumentative bullying often follow.

I have been with horses for over 45 years and still am a long way from knowing it all, but I would ask my questions on a different forum to this after seeing some of the witch hunts.. or should that be witches hunting?

^^This

I'm also just returning to horses after 15 year break.
OMG how many different types of rug????
Used to be new Zealand, sweat and jute.... that was it!

Also amazed that hardly anyone feeds 'straights' any more!

Big shock to some of us that the world we once knew is now completely different!

Give us a break!

I am now cross with OP .... Sorry

I have owned horses all my life and having just lost myold boy, am even more cross.

I have owned horses all my life, but as a child always sold them on, ( not my choice), but he was my forst OAP, so needed to ask questions about , feed , rugging etc.

Please do not presume to know who it is asking the question!!!!!!!!!!

Hi sorry but didnt really mean what i said just trying to give those who constantly go on and on nastily a little something to have a go at and to be honest iv never had this many replies lol, didnt mean it seriously but to be honest some posters just seem to want something to argue about lol.
And kinda guessed this post would get a lot more hits than a question on feeding etc !
