well tried nt to post but for gods sake

really didnt think id post again but for pity sake people......should they be out wat food wat rug how long out omg wat did you all do last year, they are horses herd animal they live out naturally, they may need rugs but nt many unless we clip them,,,,, omg common sense, iv asked questions on here for a second opinion but to be honest i dnt think i need one, if most people spend there days worrying over snowballs in feet, what rug...etc well maybe i dnt need that much advice after all.. n these silly questions get multiple replies haha serious ones get zilch i give up !!!!!!

omg why dont u lyk not look on dis forum den coz obviously u kno well loads and dont need to ask anyfin coz u iz lyk propa amazin and everyfin innit,,,,,,

And maybe the people who actually do worry about their horse do so because they care. i would rather worry about something that not give a second thought like you. If you think you know everything then fine, go for it. But i dont think that makes you better than anyone else, it makes you a moron.

No question is a silly question... Far rather somebody asked the question - if they are made to feel uncomfortable, they might not ask anymore and their next question might be about something a bit more serious. Yes, of course, you should do your research and read horsemanship books etc but you can't get everything out of a book and they do tend to be a one size fits all. By asking people on here, you get the benefit of 'real life' experience and can phrase questions and answers to to the individuals (horse or person) needs.

As has been said before re other slightly more controversial posts, this is an open Forum, you can post what you want (within reason!), if it annoys you that much, don't read them! Frankly I think life's far too short to get irritated over somebody in cyber space asking what rug to put on their horse!

Better to ask (it is always easy if you know the answer!) than making a mistake that could affect your horses health or well-being.

Some people go to a book, some ask a friend or vet, others post on here. You can read posts or not. If the post says 'what do I feed my horse' and you think you would be annoyed by the answer then don't read it!!

I like the range of answers, some are mad, but many are very useful and allows you to benefit from other's years of experience and blend a solution that suits you and your horse well.

On annoying things - ever heard of punctuation or a very basic spell check!!!!

Is this for real? I can't spell but this is extreme

I have owned and ridden horses since a child, and now run a small livery yard.

Yesterday I posted about a horse with possible colic - I have never had a horse down with colic in 30 yrs of ownership, so if one goes down with it it would my first experience.

Of course I know all the signs and technicalities, but never having experienced it wanted some advice.

Not one person who replied was patronising or rude and I was very grateful for all suggestions.

Excuse me for my 'silly question' as no doubt would have caused the op much frustration and offence - however the horse in question is now safe and well, and in my mind that is the priority!

The only stupid question is the one unasked........

Lucky for the world at large horseandshoes77,IPC own the forum and dictate what can be posted.
"Silly" questions may annoy you,but are nearly always clearly titled and easy to avoid if they are so far beneath you ;)

Personally I think it is great to have a forum of so many members who an offer advice e.t.c. When I had my first horse I read umpteen books, pestered friends and horse people and watched other horsey people intently. I never had the luxury of the internet and forums.

If I have a question now, I like to get views from others who have been in a similar situation.

I think that not enough people ask questions. For example a person at our yard thinks they know it all (but doesn't) is mouthy and opinionated. However rather than ask for help or advice the poor young horse (5 yrs old) is now stabled bound, has bad manners and is apparently unrideable. If only she had asked for help and advice she would be riding merrily on her horse.

Additionally, my dentist came this week and we had a fab chat about horsemanship and he offered some great insights into solving minor problems that my horse has occasionally. I was grateful for the chat and a different way of sorting it out and told him I'd pay him tea and cake for more info if needed! You never know where good advice comes from next.

People love their horses, young, old, new to horses, old to horses and want to do the best. Who cares if they ask questions, questions = learning. I know I don't know everything and I love to gleam new info and a different approach. I doubt you know everything OP and presume you ask questions. What may be silly to you, isn't to others. And just maybe a question you write could be seen as silly to some, but you would want advice and help. (or maybe not)

You may not think you need much advice on horse care, but I can assure you that you need to take plenty of advice on your spelling and grammar.
Honestly, pip squeak illiterate know-it-alls.....

well having read through most posts on this forum, even going right back to 2008 etc, this site can be very informative but for some of us (not so veteran members) it can be a very scary place to post, iv had horses since i was 2 yrs old but grew up with the old fashioned way of doing things, i however like to treat my horses with respect not a numpty not an expert, sometimes its just nice to have a second opinion, on here tho unless your in the click you either get no replies or a torrent of abuse (and spelling seems to be a hatred ) just wanted to say that i shall continue to browse but dnt think i will bother posting again, hopefully nt all newbys will feel this way or you will all just be arguing with yourselves seems a shame that such a good forum would have people afraid to post.

Look at how many members have yet to place one post !

If you keep posting like you have on this thread those members will NEVER post :(

Then you write this twaddle:

really didnt think id post again but for pity sake people......should they be out wat food wat rug how long out omg wat did you all do last year, they are horses herd animal they live out naturally, they may need rugs but nt many unless we clip them,,,,, omg common sense, iv asked questions on here for a second opinion but to be honest i dnt think i need one, if most people spend there days worrying over snowballs in feet, what rug...etc well maybe i dnt need that much advice after all.. n these silly questions get multiple replies haha serious ones get zilch i give up !!!!!!

Hypocrite!

We had snow for ONE day last year, we have now had it this year for 5 days. We never get snow, so yes it is new to me and yes I will ask questions.

I got back into horses over 7 years ago after having a break for 15 years (did get the odd hack in though every now and again when I could beg or borrow a horse). Wow things had changed!!
I was taught much of what I knew by an old fashioned horseman (non-horsey parents) and still adhere to much of what he taught me because it is common sense.
I have more horse books in my library then anything else and read anything everything about horses. You can never learn enough.
However, I do believe we have all got softer and as a result we treat out horses differently. Not saying it's wrong but in some cases the old fashioned views are still the best. Then sometimes there is a lightbulb moment from reading stuff on here.
I have learnt so much from this forum and others and am so grateful for some of the posts.
Besides its great to read how people solve problems and some of the tips are fantastic.

Never had to ask a numpty question yet but wouldn't hesitate to do so. As for sarcastic replies - ignore them!

On the first day of my first job when I was 15 my boss said to me:
"The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked"
I didn't take much else from that job (washing up in a pub kitchen) but that stayed with me and I now use it on all my new recruits! Although I don't think I did have to ask how to wash a plate;)

Goodness me, what a totally pointless post. OP are you just how to try and cause trouble?

they are horses herd animal they live out naturally, they may need rugs but nt many unless we clip them

And as for the above, yes they are herd animals but it does depend on lots of different factors (not just clipping) as to what rugs they should be wearing. And as the Thoroughbred is a manmade horse breed, it wasn't designed to live out 24/7/365 rugless... but that's another post completely!

I think many posts aren't really because people don't know stuff, they are because we all like to gossip & compare notes. It's good to get an insight into how other people manage day to day, and it's good to confirm that what you are doing is 'normal'. It's often nothing to do with a lack of knowledge instead it's because many of us don't have a tack room to gossip in.

I'm reading all of these messages with a small smile to myself!

I have been back with horses for 2.5 years and everything has changed!

To the originator of this thread
If you are so unhappy with our questions please feel free to join another forum as we are happy for you to be here as long as you realise any opinion, question or response from another member is just as important as yours.

To the person who said go and research
I spent months researching but every book, website, and person has a different answer , so are they all wrong how do I know who is correct. Doesn't it depend on the horse, person, situation?

I'm not trying to upset anyone because I have asked lots of questions and by having a range of answers it gives me an opportunity to consider which option I take.

Don't get cross with each other. There are many worse things in life to get cross about!

A lot of "basic" posts are what more people have knowledge of, rather than "serious" posts depending on the matter, hence one reason why they get more answers.

I can generally answer the rugs, feeding etc posts but barefoot, bitting, advanced schooling I can't. If I answer what I can and read others that I don't, then I'm expanding my knowledge.

Also, regards feeding, how many posters are given the same scenario and yet there are a few different recommenations/reasons of feeding, therefore more choices to OP depending on what they then feel may be more beneficial, i.e. someone posts about feeding/rugging a native, I can give my own personal experience whereas less experience with TB types.

Different yards work different ways, i.e rugging. One yard had nothing rugged (all types of horses/ponies) and one had everything rugged. I was made to feel guilty not rugging my hardy highland and after advice on here, decided that I know my pony better than anyone and it was right for her! That second opinion from someone not too close to situation is ALWAYS beneficial.

Well OP the air must be rarified up there on your mount of knowledge.

Im not known for being tolerant but I do genuinely try to answer a question if I think my years of horseness will be of use to somewone.

Yes some of the questions may be very basic, sometimes they are comical in their naievety but they are asked out of concern by people who havent learned as much as some of us may have.

As a number of members have said, thers no such thing as a silly question and just because someone doesnt know the basics it doesnt make them stupid - it just means they havent learned it yet.

I bet you were a right larf at school wernt you OP.

lol my thoughts exactly :D:D:D:D

Thank god im thick skinned or id never dare post a numpty question again!!!!

Crikey as a teacher I am so keen to correct op's spelling...
There are internet forums for a great many topics. In my house we regularly use ones relating to our cars, pets, careers etc. Because this wonderful internet wotsit gives you access to information and experiences from 1000000s of people.
I have found out a whole range of things from the helpful people on this forum, especially with regards to rebuilding my confidence, taking shoes off my horse, feeding, and managing a spanish git!
I would be the first one to admit to asking silly questions. But in asking a question a person opens themselves to knowledge, and the acquisition of knowledge is one of the driving forces behind human civilisation. It's the people who DON'T ask questions that are the ones that make the biggest mistakes - for example those horrendous spelling mistakes made by the OP.

Gosh nice to know you were never someone new to horses at one time then OP. So what if people are asking for help over what you consider beneath you? Don't bother to read the threads!

I'd rather people asked away than felt awkward about asking because of threads like this. We are ALL learning, it's a lifelong journey. Some may be further along the path than others but that doesn't give any of us the right to poo poo anyone else. To me it is being an intelligent, caring and diligent horse owner asking questions. Scaring people off of asking these questions might just cause a horse or pony harm in some cases.

What she said ^^^^^

Everyone has a question now and then, better to ask rather than remain in ignorance.

See why i love h and h - mostly fab people who are happy to share a lifetime of advice and knowledge that is designed ot suit and you could never get from books - love you all and shame on you OP for being so - retentive;)

A lot of people are helping a lot of horses here :D

Well having read this post a few times i can kind of make out what it says.
You see this is a HORSE forum, therefore from time to time people may actually ask questions about horses or ask other users for advice. Shocking huh?

Seriously I have never known a forum like this where some people get annoyed by people asking for advice and help.
