The vet came at 11am and sedated the pony, we had already clipped the majority of him, just not his face or feathers. The poor clippers did struggle through the mass of hair and it took ages, but only having 45 minutes of sedation we did what we could as fast as we could, so it was a bit of a bodge job!
Were going to clip the top half of his legs another time, he began to get fairly stressy over it all so we'll save it for another day.
He went from this:

I quite like it :p

Sounds like a job well done, no more sweaty smelly pone for you, much easier to keep clean, to wash and dry off, less fluffy coat for any unwanted visitors to live in too and you can waive goodbye to mud fever! :)

He's gorgeous. His mane is impressive.

Think I'd have to sedate my hairy one to get his feathers off...and then hide once he came round in case he killed me.:D

I'm too much of a softie to chop off that mane :p it's way too long not to feel bad about doing it, besides, I think my instructor would kill be if I did that!

I'd have to agree with some of the others and say take the mane off too :D He doesn't look bad by any stretch of e imagination, but he would look very smart with the mane off too. My friend had a similar hairy and he looked soooo smart when clipped and hogged - taking off the mahoosive mane balanced out the fact that his legs looked teeny and silly after losing the feathers!

Nooo don't hog the mane, but I'm biased as I hate hogged manes with a passion I think they're awful and just make the horse look ugly - Nothing in my opinion beats a lovely long mane!
I think he looks alot cuter w/o his feathers tho.

If you are doing legs I'd go the whole 'hog' and take off the mane and sort out the tail. I'm one of the other camp...either proper traditional (as my lad is) or all off. ;)

Noo! Not doing his beautiful mane too!
The main reason we did it was so we could treat his mites easier and from the mud!

I agree leave the mane for some fly relief. We had a hogged mane but it was only hogged as it was a horrid wispy type of mane. His mane is nice.

Mine gets mites and I have to trim with scissors its a tough job(he hates clippers) but it helps with getting treatment right into the feathers but I leave a little to keep them a bit protected.

He looks very smart though in the nice pics!
