Back from our big dog walk, Evie and I equally shattered. Woke up this morning to sunshine but by the time we met up it was very overcast and drizzled on and off all day. Total of 6 people and 4 dogs set off in the rain. Rather foolishly we had chosen to start with a very hilly part of the Sandstone trail, the views are wonderful on a good day, but unfortunately it was far too cloudy today. We were familiar with the first half of the walk, but after a much needed lunch break we were onto new territory, map in hand. The trail actually goes right across Michael Owens (as in Man Utd player/racehorse owner/breeder) gallops, and up past his wonderful yard. Didn't see a single horse there though
We were making very good time and within about 3 miles of our starting point when we crossed a field with some rampant heifers the other side of the hedge. As we discussed the sad stories of walkers killed by cattle this year we realised that the next stile took us into and across the field occupied by said heifers. After a lot of deliberating we decided we didn't want to risk it, so had to retrace our steps and make quite a long detour, and it started raining hard
However, the rain stopped as we picked up the trail again and on arriving back at the cars decided we had probably walked at least 12 miles, so between the 6 of us that is 72 miles towards the grand total.
I've got a couple of pictures which I will try and put up later.
