In short, little newbie, who has been a saint up until now really blotted her copy book the other day.She has been getting quite bargy and not just with me.Finally she knocked me out the way when she wanted to rush out of the stable. I ended up on the floor and started looked up Knakker man phone numbers!!! It really knocked my confidence with her actually.
Got this Spanish guy out today. He is coming out three times. We did a lot of work with a rope and western heac. collar focusing particularly on respecting space. He them got me to lead her in and out of the stable, stopping in front of the stable, then stopping half way in and finally coming in.I feel a lot better. He thinks she is basically a nice safe little horse, she just needs some ground manners,

I feel your pain. My then 3 year old was a pain in the backside for rushing out of the stable until I repeated the in and out so often he got bored with it. Now 12 he still pushes his luck on occasions and manners are something he has to be reminded of all the time. There’s no malice he just sometimes forgets who’s in charge.

That pretty well sums up the newbie.

Well done for getting help. Cobs often need to be taught their manners!

My boy was bargy around coming out of his stable when I first got him, and can still try it on with new people. I try to be really consistent- if he's being at all keen about coming out, he has to stop and wait and if he ever tries to push past, he is made to back up and wait. His ground manners have improved a lot since I've had him- partly it's a security thing, I think, he now takes more confidence from me on the ground, but partly also being told (firmly at times) that he needs to behave.

I hope your new girl turns things around now!
