Hi everyone.

Last year I did a lot of research (helped by the lovely HHOers) and bought a pair of Aigle parcours vario outlast 2 wellie boots.

All was grand, they were comfy, hard wearing and perfect for walking the dog twice a day as well as all the horsey jobs.

BUT just over a year on I got the shock of my life walking through an icy burn on my morning walk! I have finally tracked down the leak, to a hole in the seal at the back of the heel.

I thought I had cracked it with these (very expensive) boots, but it looks like back to the drawing board.

SO! Any suggestions for a pair of wellies that will stand up to daily wear and dog walking, and will last longer than a year?! (that rules out hunter obviously...)

thanks in advance. I am not a happy bunny (with one very soggy foot)

I loved my original ones... but went through several pairs in a matter of weeks... (received a pair as a present, and had several replacements due to squelchy heals and leaky boots) I will not spend any more money on hunter. They are mass produced fashionable rubbish now. :(

my first hunters lasted me 10 yrs, and were still going strong, other than they were a bit lethal with no tread left on the soles...

I've had 2 pairs of Muck Boots and neither lasted more than a few months of short daily wear. I'm fed up with the whole welly thing, but living in a bog I need them unfortunately. I buy them from a fishing tackle place which is cheaper than through horsey suppliers and is the same boot anyway.

Having put various ranges through the test over the years,i now have the Ariat wellies which have survived autumn, winter and spring and are now resting in the kitchen in anticipation of the end of summer.Hunter wellies are comfy but split, and Joules are rubbish (but stylish).

My Le Chameau ones have nearly done 10 (yes, that's ten) years.. Just starting to go on the outside but not leaking. I wear them everyday in winter and although they are very pricey I now wouldn't buy another brand of wellie! They also keep my feet toastie in the cold.

Thanks rowreach- living on the Isle of Skye I live in wellies! I just wish that they would last more than a year again!

Wunda and Dolly- thanyou! These were top of my list of next contenders...

My aigle's were very pricey too, which is why I am raging that they are kaput after only a year.

W&W, I'm shocked at that. We have them and really rate them, worked out yesterday that OH's pair are 10 years old, mine are 8 years old (we are sad and have no life, so we talk about wellies all day long). I would contact Aigle customer services and see what they say.

I am shocked too- I had done a lot of reading (dull fart!) about them and had glowing reports from other people before buying them.

I have contacted Amazon, who I bought the boots from, and am waiting to hear back but I doubt I will get anywhere.

I would have contacted Aigle directly, but could only find the american site, and I remember in my trouble with Hunter that I had to contact the distributor in any case, not "hunter" themselves. :(

contact aigle, they may just be a faulty pair! I can honestly say I've had mine for at least 10yrs and they've never leaked or had any issues (touch wood)

My dad also had his for about 10 yrs before he started having my problems with them! and he runs a couple of shoots so is out in them all day every day during the winter!

Defo contact the supplier or aigle direct and tell them you're unhappy and you want a replacement or a refund!

After reports that Hunters have gone cheaper by not being made in Scotland but abroad I went with Barbour wellies this time round...pretty much same design and price but very comfortable, I use them for walking the dog, only had them a few months so can't comment on their durability/longevity but so far so good!

Mine have been lived in (almost literally) for the year... all seasons! Lovely highland weather!

I have contacted amazon, and they are giving me a full refund (as they do not have them in stock to replace)

Chuffed with that- a very prompt response.

The hole is within the seal around the heel of the boot (you need to hold the heel at the sole and push the boot forward to find it, but water makes its way in freely! Even just walking in the rain (avoiding puddles!) had me soaked this morning.

Thinking of trying le chameau this time.

ets: the insole lining was not doing too well either... a big hole in the high pressure areas of the insole which was beginning to eat my socks away at the heels!

Cheapy Dunlop wellies (can get in farm type shops or oline). I do everything in mine and they are the best ever. I get mens ones as I have wide calfs.

I've bought a pair of muck boot. 2 weeks later the heel comes away from the sole. just toggs say I've got the heel stuck in something .....takes another 3 weeks for derby house to confirm they were faulty and if I returned 2 4" squares they would send me some new one..... How about just my money so I can go back on the hunt for something that doesn't fall apart

I tried on a pair of Le Chameau the other day, they were nowhere near as comfortable as the Aigles.

Glad you've got a refund.

Thanks! I think I will wait to try on a pair of le chameau's in store next time I'm in town. Depending on how they feel I may give Aigle the benefit of the doubt and try again. I loved them. :(

I too am very pleased at the refund, amazing customer service actually. x

If I weren't getting a refund I would maybe try this, but its basically the sole coming away from the boot across the back of the heel. Opens more with every step.

x

I guess you wil b e having to send them back. That was great that they are refunding - and being so quick sounds like they have had others go the same way.

i was bought some Le Chameau wellies for xmas a couple years ago. They only lasted 8 months before they split :( I've tried hunters (obviously not made by the old manufacturers as my first pair lasted me 4 years and these went 2 months), Ariat, Muckboots, Aigile and now im on Toggi. Passed the 2 month stage, hoping they'll make it to the end of the year.

I hate buying wellies now, nobody seems to make them like they used to :(

I feel your pain. :(

I'm another who'd say give Aigle another chance if you like them. I've only had mine 2 years as opposed to the 10 that some people have mentioned but they're still as good as new and the comfiest wellies I've ever had. It does sound like you've had a faulty pair rather than that being the norm. Have you got the neoprene lined ones? (sorry no idea about the model names) I can highly recommend them for warmth if you haven't, worth shelling out the extra- would think they would offer an extra barrier for water as well if a tiny leak does spring?

You can use a soldering iorn to melt new treads into old wellies
