I need some new wellies and no matter what they never seem to last very long. My current pair of hunters are destined for the bin and I need to replace them pretty swiftish.

I really like Le Chameau wellies, the pair I have seen are about £60.00 but I have also seen some Ariat Mudbusters which are about the same price.

Can any body offer any advice on either of thease two makes? ie durability and comfort etc. I work with horses so I need a pair that will at last last me the winter! I'm not going for Hunter's again.

Thanks

Definitely Joules! Mine are comfy, warm, and have survived quite a lot of hard use so far :D.

Alternatively, Aldi have steel toe-capped pairs in at £7.99 a pair. They look and feel pretty sturdy :).

If you're Hunter wellies have served you well then why change brand? I'm on my 3rd pair and wouldn't go for any others although I have heard Joules ones are good. I got my last pair from Cloggs. They do free delivery and free returns which is really useful in case you don't like them/don't fit etc. http://www.cloggs.co.uk/icat/brdftwrhunter/

I think we need to know how much you want to spend and what you want from your boot, ie, protected toes, warmth, or just a bog-standard cheap boot?

I have a pair of standard green Dunlops which were about £8 from a local country store. I also have a pair of black steel toecap Dunlops which were £10 and a pair of Muck Derwents (my "luxury" keep-my-feet-toasty boots for when the weather really gets cold!)

Depends if you want safety (steel toe cap), warmth or waterproofness? (or, appearence!!). For waterproofness and safety I would get dunlops or similar from countrywide. They last brilliantly and are cheap as chips. For warmth then I don't think you can beat muck boots. I have the tay sport and they are totally fantastic!

cheapies from the local ag store, then get some fleecy thermal insoles from your local pound shop to stick inside - cheap, waterproof and warm, what could be better? (OK, so they don't look smart, but horses don't care as long as dinner's on time!)

Love my Le Chameaus :) mypair are about to go into their 4th winter and are still in really good shape, no cracks or leaks, and they keep your feet toasty. They are expensive, but they're well worth the money IMO.

I've got ariat mudbusters, and with everyday wear, riding in them, etc they have lasted me forever, just got a new pair, as my other pair finally died after 2 and a half years! I wouldn't use anything else now!

I have had my Le Chameaus for 15 years, they have about had it now, but I think that 15 years of wear is pretty good.

Before I got those, I was oging through a pair of hunters every year.

If you go for some chameaus can I suggest you get the ones with neoprene linings to keep your feet cozy

I agree that muck boots are good but I have a pair of Dublin neoprene lined wellies which I got last winter for about £25 and they are fab!! Really comfortable and warm. Have already bought a spare pair in case anything happens to them, but they look fine so far, having worn them every day of last winter. They are a size down from what I normally wear which was recommended by reviews on the site. Make sure you're getting the neoprene lined ones.

If you're Hunter wellies have served you well then why change brand? I'm on my 3rd pair and wouldn't go for any others

They don't make them like they used to and now split at every opportunity!!

I would like some Le Chameaus but can't afford them right now :(

Someone on here said a few days ago that Ariat Mudbusters are £30 from Townfields Saddlery if that sways you? Or Muck Boots.

I am on the hunt for a new brand of welly too after my hunters keep giving up too easily!

honestly i would go for cheap as chips plain green ones.

fact is horse pee will rot the soles anyway, no matter how much or what name they are.

I have hunters, but got them from a trade stand from a bloke who did a good price (half RRP I think) cos we bought several pairs and they did snazzy red ones.
just coming into their second winter looking a little bit mucky but still comfy as they were, after living in them all over autumn/winter/spring (lambing for a month aswell as horses everyday)...

I used to love my hunters. I had one pair that lasted me about 3 yrs han i bought a new pair year before last. They were the aubagene colour i loved them. 5 weeks later and they split. Took them back and they said t get another pair so i went for fusia pink, These lasted for 2 months and split. What a load of Pants. I will never buy hunters again!!!

Muckboots are the way forward. bought my pair last year for £77 and they are still going strong, Only down side is they make my feet sweat and the boots stink when take my hot feet out of them. Have a few friends that have found this too so i'm not worried that i have galloping foot rot!! Ha Ha

Always had Hunters, and my third last pair lasted 20 years. The two pairs I've had since punctured within months. I still think they're the most comfortable wellington, particularly as they came up as high as riding boots (I have very long legs, and also we have a deep brook and flooded areas on part of our land). But couldn't afford that rate of wear, and am now wearing Land Masters from Dickies. Cheap and cheerful, very easy to kick off; BUT they stop about 5 inches short of my knees and I feel more like a roadman than a horse owner.
