Ok..so having trashed another 5 pairs in 3 weeks..(trashed as in splits popping up where you least need them..not as in stabbing them with a mucking out weapon!)I decide to get another pair..they felt great, uber grippy, nice fit..well sort of..then they turned into some kind of foot & leg ice pack..sadly that was not what I needed & then realised they were cripplingly painful. So now I've tried the lot.from expensive to CheapLidl ALdi ones..to Aigles. My Le Chameau got the hump & walked(grew legs & were never seen again)3 pairs of muck boots and 2 pairs of joules(one long one short!) Hunters are icemongers..and too flimsy for hard core mud dwelling & extreme puddle fighting(that thing puddles do when they grip your wellie before ejecting you into just out of wellies reach!)So I need to know..which are your top 5? I want to know about the warm ones, and the ones that don't shred your feet/socks!Over to you!:D

Another vote for Muck & Co ones! Had 2 pairs in about 8 years, and the oens ive got now have some years left in them yet!!

Muck Company - Got some new fuchsia ones last month :)

I used to love these when they were first out..first pair lasted from 1999 till 2008 but killed them properly in 2009..next pair (pink) died after just 3 months:eek: black pair lasted 5months:(. the first pair were heavenly & survived daily abuse all day..the others were on softer ground yet only worn for max 4 hours a day not 12..but they ate socks & ankles-must be part terrier!I've thought about trying the ones where the rubber goes up much higher than the classics..in theory they won't break on the bendy parts.....

That is true, my socks look like a mouse has been at them and my ankles aren't very pretty either!!

Farmer green dunlops, cheap & cheerful & as comfy & as warm as you want to make them. Ive got heat holder socks & insoles in mine. I wear mine to death & usually get around a year, maybe more out of mine & i find them alot more hard wearing than some of the more expensive wellies you get, which is why i went back to them.

for winter - muck boot tynes :) mine are holding up well so far (this will be their second winter), keep toes nice and warm and are also good for hacking without losing toes to frostbite ;).

Ankles still intact here ;)

Mind my 1st pair didn't have a heel (flat soles) and were terrible in mud and ice (used to slide in and out to field on a regular basis)!

are the heeled muck boots not good for gate slalom then? wjat do you feed yours on if they don't eat socks???:D i swore never again...but looks like i might!

Muck Boot Company! Brilliant bloody boots!

Ok not the best looking but they stand up to some serious hammer - I do my own horse then dog walk and livery all day then do my own again! So they really do get hammered and keep my feet warm too! I have the Tyne so I can hop on for a hack out without faffing about changing boots - LOVE em!

Le chameau, mine are the leather lined full zip version, bliss, lovely warm feet, I can spend all day in them, good grip, incredible support, you never ever walk out of them even in the deepest mud. fantastic wellies, incredibly pricey, but worth the money spent. And they last for yonks!

Muckboots or Aigles, I can't wear cheapo wellies! Not a snobbery thing, it's because they have no support and I end up crippled with very painful feet, they are also way too narrow on the foot and ankle. I also need insulation due to my crap circulation! And too many pairs of socks are uncomfortable. So for me one pair of decent boots and one pair of good socks is just right!:)

Went with muck boot co winter 2011... They are still keeping me warm in 2012... Wore them nearly all summer considering the ground never actually dried up in places... I went with the tynes. Although I have to say to ride in they are a bit cumbersome...

Muckboots blah, they eat the backs of ankles, I still have the scars a year later :( Plus they only lasted twelve months.

Currently on Ariats. Warm so far! Better grip so far than the Muckboots as well :D

If the Ariats don't survive, I'm going all out for the Le Chameau

Muckboots again.
First pair ate my ankles too but then I got the size bigger (chance Ebay buy and I am inbetween sizes) and they were great. Ive tried others as the later Muckboots didnt last as long as my first pair but keep going back to them.
Saying that I have just stupidly bought a 'bargain' pair of the ROK version, they are still in the box as I cant part with my trusty Tynes even though they now have splits in them :( But after reading the ROK reviews on here I think they will br in welly heaven soon anyway.

I really rate Aigle Parcours ISO, the ones with the red neoprene lining. They seem expensive initially, around £130 now, but they last and last, reckon mine are 5/6 years old and they are worn for several hours each day. Lovely and warm and very comfortable.

Personally after I gave up with hunters about 5 yrs ago, i've gone with the dublin river tall boots and haven't looked back. In 5 yrs i'm on my 3rd pair, which considering i wear them everyday and all conditions (and don't look after them very well!), I don't think is too bad. So much comfier than wellies, and keep my feet warm. They're not exactly wellies, but haven't been in a situation where wellies would have been better yet - i even waded into the water jump on the xc course where i stood for 20 mins trying to persuade a friends horse that it wouldnt drown if it crossed to the other side.

This is exactly my problem..except i think I've just picked the pairs made on a fri afternoon!

More to the point what are you doing to kill so many so quick?

You don't store them near a radiator do you?

I am surprised you killed chameau and aigles so quick.

I am the wellie demon! as above, i think i've just been very unlucky with the pairs i pick..or perhaps its friday afternoon syndrome. No nearer than 2 meters from hall radiator(other edge of front door so any heat from the low setting on radiator just to take the edge off in the hall would be chilled by any tiny door drafts.) but I do wear them in the car and most of the day/live in them for walking the dog doing horses and they all have gone on a seam somewhere either across one of the shaped bits or where you bend your leg/foot (:o that would be my ankle then-no coffee yet sorry!:D)or the bit where the sole meets the upper...I wonder if i have a phantom wellie hating neighbour/ghost that sticks pins in them overnight if I leave them on door step!:D:D:D After this year..anything is possible!!!

I'm wondering if all styles of muck boot do this I had classic tacks each time..

Muckboots again.

thanks for the heads up on ROK...

this makes total sense tho just as the saying " I can't afford cheap things" sadly i think this also now applies to expensive things that are made cheaply.

I know Timberland confessed to the boots they sell in the outlet stores being made at a separate country& factory to those in the highstreet timberland stores..they replicate the last seasons favourites cheaply. This might well be happening with other companies too..those sold direct and those sold else where..we really won't ever know. I was told this by a timberland manager when the sole of my Timberlands collapsed after 2 wears(I'm 8.4 stone so really no weight for them to cope with)got a full refund and vouchers to make up the price of the genuine true timberlands i thought i was buying, took a while to sort but very happy in the end

Absolutely agree. I have the 3/4 calf ones and look like an old woman but I have chunky calf and I usually ruin them by standing on ie a nail or thorn when hedge cut and end up sprouting a leak(although I use them for ages after events totally my fault).
But I buy decent thermal socks etc and they are brilliant. Totally hammered in mud land.I have wasted money on expensive brands and gone back to these too.

Can't quote but completely echo Navaho.
Dunlop bog standard farmers wellies. Sensible price and do the job.
Daughter pays a fortune for fancy stuff, never last even one winter and she's always got cold feet.
Hunters being the worst of all the ones she's bought.

I got my Dunlops for £12 in an agricultural feed merchant place but i've seen them in DIY stores too. B & Q do a decent wellie as well, about £18 and slightly more comfortable than the cheap farmers wellies, but rubber not so long lasting. But then for £18 you don't feel so bad when they split after 6 months, compared to the expensive ones.

I agree that the Dunlop rubber is a lot more hardwearing than the posh wellies, but as others say a pair of insoles and some decent socks are needed to make them as comfortable.
